I never did get mine, as it was back-ordered for like two months. But I'm strictly sticking to my new policy of not buying any new factory pieces and sticking to custom projects for a while. I finished my Shinobigatana last night (and it's awesome) and I've almost finished General Patton. When that's done, I have two more blank blades to start from scratch.

Too bad you never got the Qama. It looks like it will be a fun little sword (and IS a fun little sword, according to JP). Mine should be here in another week (why so long (2 weeks) shipping from Canada, I wonder)? ANyway, I'll get some pics and make some observations when it comes in.

In January, I decided that during Christmas the elves, that’s my kids and my cat, King Tut, didn’t pay enough attention to this “poor old senior citizens needs.” They only got me "practical things" and not any “slicers and dicers” or “things that go bang.” That negligence simply had to be corrected so I sat down and made up a list of some wishes and wants.
On the fun (less expensive) side, I wanted three blades that I saw in an Atlanta Cutlery catalogue. Those items were a Kukri, a Mini Kukri, and a Qama. I’ve read about Kukris for years and simply wanted one for the collection. The Mini Kukri looked small enough to occasionally carry and sub for the CRKT Stiff K.I.S.S. tanto-point that I usually carry hooked inside the arm hole of my photo vest. Ever since first seeing one, the Qama has been high on my “I want one” list simply because of its functional shape as a stabbing/slashing blade. I also like the fact that the blade shape closely resembled that of its illustrious forbearer, the gladius. On the serious (more expensive) end of my “wants list” were first a Gen2 Roman Waisted Gladius and second a Gen 2 Celtic Anthropomorphic Sword.
Before calling Atlanta Cutlery, I decided to call Jason (trueswordsman) at armsofvalour.com to place my sword order. I had previously ordered three blades from Jason, a Coustille, a Shrewsbury Sword (I’ve read too many Cadfael novels!), and a Gen2 Lucerne Sword, and was very pleased both with the blades and the transaction.
Unfortunately, Jason said that the Gen2 Roman Waisted Gladius was out of stock temporarily, but that he would notify me when it was re-stocked. After talking with him, I ordered my second choice, the Gen 2 Celtic Anthropomorphic Sword. As we were talking, I told Jason I was going to order several blades from Atlanta Cutlery, ones that he doesn’t stock. Even though he doesn’t list those items, he graciously offered to secure them for me. That saved me from having to place another yet order and pay yet another shipping charge. When my order from Arms of Valor arrived, I received a Gen 2 Celtic, a Windless Qama, a Windless Gurkha Regimental Kukri, and a Windless Mini Kukri. All were as expected, quite nice. A bit later, I did order and receive the Gen2 Roman Waisted Gladius. Thus far drat and durn it, I have not been able to do any cutting with my toys (health hassles), but maybe that will change.
As soon as is possible, I hope to order another Qama as I would like to do some “experimenting.” The plan now involves some “antiquing” and as well an alteration in the grip/hilt material. I might even redo another one and make it into a “gladius.” I would like to make a leather covered and brass bound wooden sheath for the Gen 2 Celtic. The leather sheath that came with it really left something to be desired and it caused some blade rusting (ouch!). If and when any of that can be accomplished, I will post the results on the forum.
Recently, King Tut, the resident cat, just happened to find his “father” something in the “things that go bang” department. That was a 1917 Colt in .45ACP that will eventually be modified and changed into a “Fitz Special,” a .45 with no hammer spur and a 2.5 inch barrel. It will resemble a Colt Detective Special on steroids and will make a very large pocket pistol for a very big pocket. Guess I needed one of those for ballast years ago in Texas where it was always windy!

Qamakaze! ;D The qama arrived sooner than I thought it would. It's a damn nice little sword. The fact that I paid $15 for it only makes the deal sweeter. The most surprising thing to me is how solid this little guy feels. The tang is beefy and the scales are nice and thick. The grip is a wee bit short (as I figured it would be), but the shape makes it comfy enough and sort of makes up for the length. The tip on this thing is brutal. It slides effortlessly through pretty much any target I can find: foam archery target, soaked rolled newspaper, the box it came in, etc. I'm with woodwose, this thing would make a fantastic platform for custom work or conversion to a gladius.

Congrats on your new Qama Kriegschwert! That was a very sweet deal you got for that price. I think Qamas are actually very reasonable for the whomping full price of $40.00. There’s a lot there to play with as they come right from the box or, as we’ve both indicated, for some custom work. It will be fun to see what all might be done to develop a custom blade using a Qama as a base. Happy cutting (stabbing). woodwose

Oh, I agree, woodwose. The $40 asking price is amazingly reasonable for a blade like this. Larry, nope, the blade comes with the standard Windlass 1mm (appox.) edge, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting one if you want. A full review, eh? I'll see what I can do. ;D

Yes I to would really like to see a full review of the sword. I think it is rather neat looking and am considering getting one myself. I would just like to have some feedback from owners one how it performs and if it is durable.

The bolts or pins stick up on one side,I am going to redo my handle with wood and take off the buffalo horn and then put back the pins so they don`t stick up on either side. All in all it is not a bad short sword.I`ll carry mine in my truck or around the property to kill snakes with.

Yeah, someone review the qama so I can find an excuse to buy one.
Speaking of cheap Windlass weapons, has anyone heard anything about the Windlass Russian Kindjal? It looks kind of cool, but I'd like to hear something about it before I shell out sixty bucks.
EDIT: I ordered one anyway. When it arrives, I'll do a quick review so that we can all see how far $60 takes us with Windlass.

I have their old straight bladed Kindja form years gone bye (about 20), it has a narrower blade than the Quama, it's a nice little blade well made nothing fancy, blade seems a little soft by modern standards but it does hold a edge and is quite easy to sharpen...
