This is what appears to be an old and interesting Afghan-Indo-Persian Pesh Kabz or Kard Dagger with ivory panels on grip & crucible steel (?) blade with an armor piercing tip. Very old gut-stitched fur-lined goat hide scabbard. The numerals "u3-50" are on the scabbard locket. Could these numbers suggest this piece originated in India while under control of the British? Or is this just a very old tourist dagger? Any thoughts?

I'm *guessing* that the scabbard, at least is some sort of 'tourist' item. The overall look and feel that the pictures give is that, despite the engraving and such, it looks rather 'sloppy'..still lots of solder visible and the decoration doesn't seem to fit the space well. I almost get the impression that the locket and chape may have been cut down from something else. I'd guess , all in all..it's a tourist job..but it could be an OLD tourist one. As for the weapon itself ?? As for the letters and numbers...I'm guessing it may have something to do with the actual source of the copper material itself, rather than any sort of govt. marking

I tend to agree - my original thought was that the dagger itself was probably late 1800's based on the look of the steel, how the grip is fitted and the armor peircing point - but that the scabbard was definately later - maybe WWII era. The locket and chape were extremely tarnished when I purchased it - completely green from copper oxidation. Probably something from a market in Kabul or Kandahar?
