Hi guys, Decided to make an account. I've been interested in swords since I can remember, playing with the Castle Lego range (Medieval) in the early 90s as a kid. I bought my first sword when I was 16ish after taking an age to convince my Dad to allow me to have it. I'm glad he didn't let me buy many when I was young, as I bought a 'flashy' stainless steel rat tail tang futuristic katana. I still have it, and now, as I have grown up it's an eyesore and embarrassing. A bit like getting a poor tattoo at a young age, but we all learn from our mistakes.
Anyways, I'm now looking at starting my collection so any help and advice would be welcomed. My preferences are the Middle Ages, so in turn I have no interest in katanas and such.
If any Australian members could give me advice, that would help a lot too. The biggest obstacle seems to be shipping. I have drafted up a list of manufactures, but don't want to be spending too much on individual swords, so no more than $600-$800, mainly because over $1,000 I need to pay import taxes, etc.
I'm also looking at a custom sword, found a guy here that does them. But, maybe leave that for down the track as it will cost a pretty penny.
Just wanted to say hi and looking forward to learning off you guys
Ryan

Hi Ryknow, welcome to the forum. As a fellow Aussie I will tell you shipping is a pain in the ZZZ, depending on what you are after take a look at Albion Europe ( www.albion-europe.com/) have some great swords in your price range, which can be purchased VAT free and just scrape in under the $1000.00 mark with postage, but there is plenty of other manufacturers who have some great blades for a lot less then Albion. For custom work you carn't go wrong with Brendan from Fable Blades, which is based near Perth ( www.fableblades.com/index.html ) Also check the classifieds the Aussie sellers are slowly growing in number.

Welcome mate,
I might be able to help with shipping if you dont mind waiting to combine with other gear, I'm sure a few Aussies can vouch for me. Let me know what you are after and I can see if any contacts can get a good price as well.
Cheers!

Thanks guys
Yeah Albion ones would be nice but a bit expensive for me atm. So I would need to do a lot of research before committing. I agree with Fable Blades. I was blown away by his work, and really interested in getting my custom from him. At $2000-$3500 it is costly, but when you look at the work going into it and the quality it's actually pretty good price. I already have an idea for it, but will wait until I do more research.
Sounds cool, thanks, but I've just ordered some stuff so might be a while before I get around to another order.
