Father-in-law got these 2 swords from his uncle who was an American living in the Philippines. Nobody in the family knew of these swords but since he has died they found them in his things. Now they are trying to find any info they can. I have found a lot via the Internet but can't really date them or tell they were anything other than Kris swords. Anyone know where we can find more info or does anyone know anything about these? Why is the hand guard different from side to side? We thought it was broken but it appears Kris swords are like this. Any links/help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

I wouldn't call #2 a kris. Filipino, yes, but not a kris. Mid/early 20th century? #1 looks relatively new. I'd say mid/late 20th century. I have a modern tourist kris that looks a lot like this, which might bias me towards saying "modern". Why asymmetric hand guards? Why not? Especially when you have an asymmetric grip on the sword, there's no reason why the front and back should be the same. The people at www.vikingsword.com might be able to help, and you might find useful stuff browsing there. Otherwise, the magic search term to google for is "Moro kris".
