Mike, do you mind explaining the meaning of various AT sword prefixes: AT, DN, DD, MS....? Do they represent different furniture configurations given the same blade? Thanks! Most designations will disapear in the very near future, as I get everything reorganized....... Much of this was because, way back when, I made stuff for different retailers....... The DN is/ was for Don Nelson, as he pushed me for a different kind of handling than I was doing at the time. I was comfortable in my "box", as I had a decent formula for making a harmonically balanced sword also a decent dymanic balanced sword..... After learning a few lessons {swordmaking kinda things}, I started making heavier swords with closer cogs, and still made both the dynamic and harmonic stuff work. Had a lot to do with studying certain antique blades.......... Sometime next year, all of the active ones will be either AT or DN. In at least one case, I'm going to have to renumber, as now that the DD1404 has become the AT1404, there's now two of them........

I have a DD1404 and I can recommend it very highly. It is a heavy cutter, even though it's a Type XIV. And it handles very well. Lively and fairly quick for such a powerful sword. I have committed to, and will happily buy a 1557, a 1566 and a 1506. Can't wait to get them, though realistically it will probably take 6-9 months to complete, unless I miss my guess. The purpose of the sale is to get the machine paid off, thus freeing me of having to do Navy work to pay that bill.... and having to deal with the monthly time loss that, doing that work entails........ie, instead of a 4 week month to work on swords, sometimes it winds up a 3 week, and occassionally a 2 week month for swords. Payment gone, Navy work gone, more time to get swords done, backlog disapears...... Since I'm running 1566s and 1502s today, on the machine, I'm thinkin' that its going to be sooner rather than later..........

Hey Gus. It'd be great for you to be able to focus on the thing you love to do. That must have been your dream for a while. I bet that machine will be worth its weight in gold in the future.

Oh yeah! Now if we can just find someone who will make top-quality wood core, felt lined, leather covered scabbards to go with Gus' standard line of swords for about $100-150 each, we'd be all set! Nothing fancy, mind you. Just a standard, historically appropriate design for each different sword. They could be "cookie cutter" mass produced, to the degree the swords are, and sold with each sword as an option. Hmmm...I guess the chances of that happening are about...oh...ummm... ZERO!!!

Um, doesn't Gus have Tinker scabbards available for $60? It's there on the tinker forum.

Um, doesn't Gus have Tinker scabbards available for $60? It's there on the tinker forum. Yep. And $60 is a great deal for them. I paid $100 for each of mine. They are single heavy piece of leather, stitched up with a middle seam outward, and a heavy leather tip piece and throat. They are good protection, and can even be attached to a belt. But a solid wood core scabbard they are certainly not. If you leave a sword in them, it's pretty much guaranteed to rust in the long term. Whereas felt lined wood core scabbards are great for storage, especially when you get a little oil on the surface of the felt.

Oops. I didn't realize they weren't wood core. I guess you can always make your own, if you have the time and inclination. And I mean alot of time. But somehow, stuff you make yourself never looks as good as those professionally done. Funny how that is...

Darn, I had thought they were wood core scabbards-- any tips on how to store a non-scabbarded sword?

Keep a light coat of oil on it. If you are storing it maybe wrap it in wool or wool felt with a bit more oil.

Booyah! That is looking fine! If and when Gus gets around to making another SBG sword, I'll be the first on the list.(Assuming I like the design, of course. ) Now I can't wait for the Machine Sale swords to move out. (Does a little pee pee dance) EDIT: SEE RAMM, LENTICULAR! HAHAHAHAH ;D ;D ;D

Aye, that pommel nut is a wee bit ugly...make it very ugly.
But who cares? The blade alone is worth more then what was paid. I wonder if it's possible to peen the nut if you want that look...

Mine's apparently heading off to Tinker for a scabbard, then I guess I'll be needing to get some money off (crap, I was supposed to do that today; better get that now) before it can finally ship. The sword is paid in full, but I owe for the scabbard. Off I go to pay on that one, then. For the record, the pommel doesn't bother me at all. Perhaps when I'm rich again I'll modify mine to be a little prettier. Meantime, this'll be my "beat the tar out of things until I figure out how to cut them" sword, so pretty is a bad idea. I'll take ugly most happily.

His latest "Pay off the Damn Machine" sale seems to have been a great hit, too. I gots me a 1506 out of it. I'm quite anxious to have my first Angus Trim sword, and then my second.
