Well, I just added my "Yes" vote to the poll, so I am willing to commit to one. If my wife pulls the trigger on the Witham River Viking sword, I guess I'll just have to sell my MiL as a slave.....no, wait. She wouldn't bring enough. JK, there. Yup. Consider me committed to one, Gus. LMK when the put-up-or-shut-up moment comes. The wife will love it, too. She's as nutty about this stuff as I am. There was a time many years ago when she was seriously into fencing, preferring the rapier. She's a great companion-in-crime! The slope is getting slipperier! ;D

COOL!!!
This is a bigger success than even I thought it would be...given you guys actually pony up the cash. ;D So we have 12 "yes" and 4 "maybe" for an initial planned run of 10 swords? I think Gus has bumped it up to 12 swords in the run now.
Just an FYI, there may likely be an opportunity to put down a deposit to ensure you get one of these, closer to the completion date.

He'll definitely get my money. That is, provided I don't miss this entirely.

Material for the blades is at the heat treater for subanneal. I had hoped to pick it up today, but it hasn't worked out..........
Should have it early next week though, and machining will start immediately on them.........
Handles are slotted, need to be ground and wrapped.....
Guards are machined, need to be ground, and then fitted when the blades reached that point......
Pommel material here, need to make........

Gus, How many will be made for this run? When can orders be placed? What will be the final price?
Thanks!

Gus, How many will be made for this run? When can orders be placed? What will be the final price? Thanks! I think we'll stay at 10 for now. I realize that there's more than ten that have said they're interested, but inevitably, someone will have an unexpected bill, or a small financial emergency {or maybe not so small}, so I think 10's a good number...... If it winds up that there still is more interest, then either could plan on another run, or maybe these folks could be first in line for the second sword to be run this way. Before going further, its fair to mention there's an issue I need to address. It had been my intent, quietly, to make one for Paul, since we're doing this on Paul's site. But then I found out what it costs to ship to Oz from here....... So, I need to see what I can do for Paul........ Then, after the blades go into heat treat, I think its time to see who will be willing to pay a deposit, and go right down the list....... $300 for the sword, + s&h. $300 is less than my current wholesale price, so its not like there's any real margin in these....

I can put up to half down right now if you like. Give me a month and I can have it all. Maybe a month and a half.
I want one of these.
Heck, I'l even throw in a bit extra to help with shipping to Paul, as I agree, he definitely should be among the first, if not THE first, to receive one of these.

Hey Gus, Paul is not going to be the only Aussie to try to get one of these, but maybe this could present an opportunity, perhaps the Aussie orders could all be shipped together to Paul and he could courier them from there, reducing the overall cost per purchaser. If not don't worry, us aussies are used to getting the short straw when it comes to buying swords from international suppliers.

Good idea Brenno, a group shipment would certainly save on the international bit of the cost but would attract GST on the shipment where as singlely they wouldnt.I think Paul and Gus would have to do a run thru on costs to see which would work out cheaper. I'm still in btw How many Aussies where definite? 2 swords plus postage will come in without gst and would cost not much more than a single sword in postage.Perhaps people living close to each other could "pair up".

Has the target date for these moved any? I'm just curious because i see you're already making progress. Being on a tight budget i have to plan my purchases, if this one is moving closer i'll hold back on others.

Wow, thanks Gus! That would be awesome... ;D I could help Ronin and Brenno with theirs - if we ship to my Florida Access USA address, I could then have them sent by Fastway Couriers within Australia and just split the costs of the Access shipment with Ronin and Brenno + actual courier costs. I'm not sure how much the Fed Ex shipping would be - but I imagine around the US$150 mark for three swords (US$50 each), + AU$10 to $20 courier costs depending on how far they are from South Aussie. The only issue with Access at the moment is that when any swords hit Australia, Customs holds them for far too long (last time was a Cold Steel Shamshir and a generic Wushu Broadsword, time to Australia from the US - 3 days. Customs, 13 days!!). Yup, it ain't no fun being a sword enthusiast in Australia... But you get used to it after a while (you guys in the US REALLY have it gooood!).

G'day Paul When I got a quote from Reliks for shipping to Aus they quoted $65US provided they were under 1m packed - which I think this looks like it will be under 1m. Which is about the money you're talking. Maybe it can be posted to avoid the customs rigmarole? Correct me if I'm misguided.
Thats still gonna be the cheapest AT we're gonna see in Aus (US$365; about AU$460 at todays rate) - so I'm up for it. Brendan

It looks like one issue had, has an answer, that being getting swords sent to Australia......
Thanks brenno, for the messages, I'll return the email after this....
I guess the first issue, then, is finding out how many. I had decided to not make any more than 10, but then had a couple folks suggest that since I had 15 pieces of stock, that I should be open minded........ at least this first time.
Since the blades are now being machined, I suspect we better start confirming things.
Paul and shootermike make two. I think brenno is in top 10, so that makes three.......
Thinking in terms of $100 down {USD}, and a probably ship date now of 8 weeks, lets confirm the names on the list....
edited to add, Paul's is for the use of his forum, shootermike was the first, and is already paid.......
