LordNewport, I was significantly poorer in 2012 haha. Even if they were cheaper, I wasn't interested in buying an antique for my first, and potentially only sword. I wanted something that I could use, not a historical artifact that I would be afraid to cut anything with.
As for my "CSA Cavalry Officer Saber", those sound like issues for someone to take up with the Windlass marketing department. I mean, I won't. I still like it. But it's like I said, I wasn't looking for an original. All those things wrong about it may be so, but even if I had known that they called it by the wrong name, and that they used a historically inaccurate hilt, I wouldn't have been concerned in the least. I was a kid who wanted some cool swords that I didn't have to feel guilty about using, and that's exactly what I got. I know nothing about engraving styles or techniques of the 50s or any other era, but I'm sure you're not suggesting that anyone truly thinks an etching like that would exist on an original. I would have thought it obvious to anyone that it is simply a commemorative decoration. As it turns out, I'm actually kind of glad they got this one wrong. I prefer the hilt they put on it, as opposed to the appropriate ones I see on the foot officers swords.

Welcome back!
Mmmm, cavalry sabers are sooo awesome! The Fr 1822 is my favorite! 😊
Bummer that your early experiences were so disappointing. 😕
Glad you have a newfound direction of interest.

On this link you can see a very large CSA on the blade. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... icer+Saber If this is advertising the manufacturer I would be asking for $1 every time I waved the blade or it's removal! Pretty sure CSA went out of business, so they won't be able to pay you for advertising.

The other sword that should be coming soon is the CS man-at-arms Grosse Messer. I'll be honest, the only reason I decided to buy the both of those is because they were pretty cheap, comparatively. I absolutely have full intentions to completely abuse the crap out of the messer. I am not going to be nice, it will chop everything. So I placed a order on April 17, but because of Covid shutdowns and all that, there was a shipping delay for a lot of orders. I just yesterday received my CS Grosse Messer, and Hanwei practical rapier for playing around with my Darkwood. I am satisfied with them both, for the most part. Although the Grosse Messer is a freakin pig, but that's okay because it was fairly cheap and I expected it to be more of a heavy sharp piece of steel than a sword. But I have got to tell you guys something.. My mind is totally blown. All I can do is laugh, because this is just too ridiculous.. Not to rehash my complaints of yesteryear, if you read my previous posts, you know that I was very unhappy with the CS 1860 Heavy Cavalry saber. And one of the reasons was that It arrived with the mouth of the scabbard installed backwards... Well guess what? Fast forward some 8 years, silly me decides to roll the dice on a CS sword, and it arrives with the scabbard mouth installed backwards!!!!! WTF?? XD XD XD XD !! What are the chances?! Seriously, I have a hard time believing this is a common issue, rather than a one-off, but that is just crazy. I won't send this one back. The scabbard of the 1860 back then was completely unusable, but this one I can probably just file off some metal to accommodate the blade. What strange luck lol By the way, does anybody else think the 'quoting' system on this forum is a little bit funky? It seems like maybe it's never been updated from 10+ years ago, because on any other forum I frequent, it is never such a strange process to try to quote specific things. Here it's like you quote the whole dang thing, including multiple quotes which are unnecessary, or you risk your comment getting garbled and weird.. Attachments:

What strange luck lol It actually does seem like the kind of mistake that's easy to make in a hurry if you're not paying particular attention, one of the inherent drawbacks of mass production. By the same token, though, it also seems like the kind of mistake QC should be specifically looking for... On the other hand, if it's just glued on you can most probably take it off and turn it the right way around. If you're quoting a post that's also quoting another post that's also quoting another post, you can get up to three layers of nested quote tags, yes. Which can be great for clarity when following some sidetrack in a big rambling conversation, but can also get quite awkward when you end up quoting several looooooong posts to reply to a single brief question. Personally, I just manually delete the parts I don't want to quote, lovingly handcrafting each post with great care and personal attention! (And never, never use the WYSIWYG "preview" function.)
