Problem with that is, making a mold of someone elses work to cast and sell copies is pretty unethical and a bit illegal.

I found this write-up here: www.ucforums.com/showthread.php?t=5271The author shows that the Museum Collection Glamdring has a full tang with a threaded end. Looks pretty sturdy for what it is. Certianly at least as good as many $400 swords. - Hal

Not bad. Still leaves the composition of the fittings in question, but it at least answers one question.
+2 for the info and laying to rest something that's popped up over the last couple of years.

In the linked article the author also strips down all the fittings and confirms that they're at least carbon steel or some kind of steel, not pot metal. He doesn't do a detailed anaylis but he seems to note that they're solid. I had one of these for a while and the wrap on the handle was less than stellar... They didn't use a solid epoxy or glue to hold the leather wrap on top the cord, so if you handled it and swung it about, which I did.. the wrap got loose.
I'm thinking I'll be buying of of these again and doing a strip-down myself. Actually looks kinda fun. Plus it'll give me edge polishing practice.

I still wouldn't call it "functional" since the threaded portion only goes about an inch into the pommel, and the pommel itself is quite hefty.
Keep us updated on how yours turns out if you go through with it.
