I decided to record a quick-ish look over of my new Savoy just to go over a few points in the construction and so forth, answer a couple of questions- that sort of thing. If I get a lot of requests for a full written review I'll do that as well. I liked the way another member described his review as more of a "show & tell" - so thanks for that ken kata- I'm using it ------------------ Stats from VA:Overall Length: 44 ½ in Type XIIIa Blade Blade Length: 35 in Fuller Length: 16 1/4 in Blade Width at Guard 113/16th in Blade Width 2 inches from the tip: 7/8th in Handle Length: 7 1/4 in Style 5 Guard is 8 3/8th in Pommel Type J (oval) 1 13/16th tall 2 3/16th wide Weight: 3 lb 2 oz Overall weight with scabbard: 4 lb 2 oz P.O.B. 5 1/4 inch from Guard

Very cool. It looks so much better peened than the hex nut configuration! I like your choice of colours too.

thank you everyone. I thought I was rushing the video a bit when viewing across the blade and so forth- so it's nice to hear it was actually okay. I really do like it peened- feels more "right" somehow to me, and the welded (tig, I think) cross is great too. I think this might have been the last sword to come out of the CSS with the old finish (at least definitely on of the last few)... but I might just end up taking a scotchbrite pad to it to give it a more satin sheen anyway. I want to even out the finish on the blade, reduce some of the rougher sanding/grind marks, so the hilt might also get touched up to better match. The colours came out better than I hoped and I like this look more than the original version (sorry RifleChris ) ..tell ya what though- I have got to get real cutting practice in as I am woefully bad at this whole straight edged blade thing...

I think that you have set a new precedent for reviews, plain pictures will pale in comparison from now on.
Thats the first VA chape that I've seen that wasn't epoxied on the scabbard. Sonny better crack the whip, his troop of elves are slacking!!

seems from many accounts the CSS is busy busy and backed up with work... I think video reviews are great but also many people don't have the internet speed to watch a lot of vids- so pictures and words will always have a place. Plus if you forget something it's a pain to make a new video and edit that in  But yes, I believe I will add a video component to any review I do from now on. This was really just a quickie trial I guess. I could have easily talked for a half hour or more LOL (I barely even talked about the blade itself) - don't know if anyone would want to watch that much

Ahhh yes, awesome video - the big question is though... will it blend?
No seriously, though I'd like to see something getting cut when you get a chance to get around to it.
