I acquisitioned a Odinblade Morrigan, and felt it needed repurposed from it's original color into something a little darker. Way darker. In fact, black. - I redyed the handle deep black from it's original green. It's been waxed and buffed to enchance the cord under the wrap. - I redyed and reworked the throat of the scabbard to give it a Celtic knot decoration instead of the redundant wolf head. - I lightly polished the edges of all the fittings with extra fine steel wool to bring out a little more of the natural bronze color. - I highly polished the central riser ring to match the fittings on the baldric. - I added the black Inner Bailey baldric with copper and brass fittings - which REALLY set this piece off. This sword has now been re-named: Huan, which was Wolf-Sauron's Bane, great hound of the Valar, and loyal companion to Luthien in the quest to reclaim the Simarils from the Iron Crown of Morgoth. At the pinnacle of the story, Huan fought and defeated Sauron in wolf-form, paving the way for the rescue of Beren from captivity. While not an extensive customization by any means, the modifications certinally gives the sword a more menacing, purposeful look - this blade looks awesome blacked-out. This particular Morrigan, which is now my favorite sword, will get alot of attention at the faires and cons in years to come as part of the Night's Watch ensemble I am working on. The previous owner will do a backflip at the prospect of the color change, but I could not help it. The sword told me to do it. (Don't worry, if you get it back from me, I will convert it back to green... )

Awesome!!! Menacing indeed. Whatcha think, Sean?
Findlithui: I'm not Sarge but I highly doubt he would have the blade ruined by heat.

Oh there is no blue at all on the blade. It just looks that way due to the lighting.

At least until I figure out a way to make it glow silver with the Light of the Valar at night.

Stunning piece with some gorgeous modifications done to it. I think it will look pretty brutal on a Black Brother.

I thought that the original was plenty menacing enough.
But.........
A couple of well thought out changes certainly did change the character of the outfit. You are correct in your assertion that it now has a more sinister cast.
Very nicely done.

Ok, interesting, never heard of that. I always thought there was cold blueing with paste and hot blueing which means heating the steel up until it changes color. Thanks for letting me know Do you happen to have any experience with this boiling water thing? I can't really imagine how it would work...

It is also called Nitre or Niter bluing, hot bluing, or hot dip bluing.
It is a solution heated up and the part is immersed to effect the bluing. This solution usually doesn't boil until around 300 degrees Fahrenheit though.
