I've been playing an rpg game called The Witcher 2, and I'm loving the sword designs in the game and I've been trying to see if anything similar exists. The style I'm looking for in particular is called the Caerme, it's basically looks like a longsword but one edge of the blade is serrated, almost like a saw blade. I was just wondering if any designs like this exist. This is a site with the best picture I could find. witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Caerme The picture only shows the handle and the a bit of the blade but you can kind of see what I'm talking about. Also is this a complete fantasy sword or did swords like this exist in history? Thanks in advance for help you guys can give me.

It would not suprise me if there was a historic example of a sword like that. There is actually is historic examples of serrated edged katana, so why not a serrated edged longsword. Some one must have thought of it at some point though the practicality of it would be fairly limiting. It would however be a viscously intimidating weapon.

Oddly enough, my first thought upon seeing the icon was that it was a longsword sized sword-breaker, which would actually be pretty interesting as a weapon, though I couldn't see how you'd employ it effectively.
