So after acquiring an awesome seax this weekend (pics in New Acquisitions thread), I commissioned a viking sword through the same smith to go with it. Design specs below. Pretty basic, I know, but it's the blueprint, after all: Some of the measurements were extrapolated from the Albion Berserkr, but mine will be a couple inches longer. I did change the thickness of the blade on the smith's advice, so it's going to be 1/4" thick instead of 3/16". The pommel is a placeholder design; currently looking at a pommel akin to Windlass's Swedish viking sword. The smith says he'll cast both for a side by side comparison, so it'll be interesting to see how they measure up. A custom scabbard will also be included with it, and all the fittings will be cast in bronze; if silver wasn't as pricey as it is now, I'd have gone with that option (or I could send him a few silver dollars from my coin collection to use for the fittings  ). As far as the handle, I'm planning on a leather-wrapped wood core, but an elk antler handle would look pretty sweet, especially with the bronze. I even had the option of using mammoth tooth ( :!: ), but that stuff's way outside my price range. All in all, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Congratulations! I've been curious about the single edged vikings for a while... do you mind telling which smith you'll be getting it from?

They're a nice unique blade amongst a very unique family of swords anyhow. Very interested to see how these go.

Design looks nice! Although, I have a feeling that the pommel is going to become a pain in the wrist... Have you tried the functionality of the design or one similar to it? Woudln't want a sword where the pommel digs painfully into the wrist on every swing...

Have you considered something like this one on the Celtic Wolf? Would look pretty sweet imo...
