Thank you so much Luka for this. I've now a clear direction I'd like to take the sword. I sure have plenty of time to work it out with a 3 year wait. Now that I have a good idea as to the inlays it's time to start looking at other Brazil nut swords of he period. I may not even do a brazil nut and just do something totally different. I;m not even sure what my tastes will be when my turn comes up. The reality of it is I'm about 2 yrs form my BS and when my commission hits I'll by one year away from my Masters :? Not sure how to feel about that but I've always wanted a sword from Patrick so why not just stay in. I'll start a new thread for sword ideas as I'm about done hijacking this one.

No problem. The only inscription not suitable for a brazil nut sword, or at least sword from that period, is the one with greathelms, that one is 14th century at least.

Those are both really nice, I like the black one a lot. Who made them?

I'll have to post my Norman here sometime...
Bryan, I strongly suspect the one with the black grip is a Windlass CYOS. Not sure about the other one.

I was thinking the same thing , black one looks like a Windlass CYOS. It looks nice.

The brown handled one is a modified Cawood sword I bought from dave (it actually appears earlier in this thread; noticed it after I posted my pics).
Black handled one is an MRL CYOS. It's a tad blade-heavy though, that's my only gripe about it.

I just have one of the Ulfberhts, which was posted by someone else earlier. I'm too new to know anything about it, except that I chose it for the utilitarian, no-nonsense look, and Shooter Mike's review.

Thanks, I really like those relatively cheap swords turned with some customization into something that is pretty much exactly what I want and what is not available on the market.

Can't believe it took me this long to take these pics, but here ya go. Top to bottom: Arms&Armor St. Maurice that's been turned into a Type Xa, Albion Gaddjhalt, Patrick Barta custom shown in Bill's post above, Albion Reeve, Albion Knud, Windlass MRL Ulfberht

Really ShooterMike, your guessing game is too easy...
OF COURSE the third sword down is the one the Arch-Angel accidentally dropped in the field behind your house. I didn't buy and read all those boring old Oakeshott books for nothing you know.
Sheesh.

When I think of how close I came to buying that Patrick Barta you have there I want to cry a little. If you EVER part with it PLEASE let me know first.

That Barta piece sure is a good looking length of steel.

Thanks guys. The Barta sword is awesome and the handling superb. But another sword in that picture that really surprised be is the Albion Knud. It is extremely fast and nimble, and with such a long blade. It's almost feels like a weilding a butcher knife in the way it slices, but it still has lots of presence in the cut that is belied by the way it floats when moving it from guard to guard. It's a lot like a lighter Gaddjhalt.
