If she wasn't using a release aid which is visibly shortening her draw, she would need a chest guard, which many females have to wear on one side so the said body part does not get in the way of the string. So, some females need an extra piece of equipment along with the finger tab/shooting glove and forearm protector.

Well, my budget has plummeted lower than expected after buying a SBG Custom... So this plan is a bit delayed... Yet, I am planning of having a bow and some arrows. And chrisperoni's derailment has made me think twice. (THE OTHER PIC, THE ONE WITH THE INJURY) All in all, archery seems fun.

Injuries like that one posted are usually due to improperly spined arrows. Look up archers paradox on youtube and you will see a bunch of videos showing this effect./ In it's most extreme it comes out like this.
Archers Paradox - Short Version
The back of the arrow actually catches up with the front and the arrow snaps sending shards everywhere! This is why people stress proper spine weight in your arrows. A little off here and there no big deal your arrow just wont shoot straight, but a lot off and your arrow is more dangerous to you than what your shooting. I think every would be archer should watch this video and see why they should not just shoot any old arrow out of any old bow.

You can also receive a similar injury if you draw and release fast with an arrow shorter than your draw length. Comes back to far off the shelf and drops behind your hand, and you release to fast to notice. Bam, arrow through your hand. That was actually my first thought when I saw that picture.

Its why I get my arrows an inch over my draw and I get my arrows properly spined (mind you having an archery store down the street from my work is uber convinient) (also have a sword store a bus ride away I do enjoy the city)
