Here's is my 1st ever Review on the John Barnett - war sword
The War Sword.
Referred to as swerdes of werre or grete war swords, larger sized knightly swords seemed to have been developed in Germany and there are frequent references to their use by medieval French chroniclers writing about knights employing the use of "big German sword".
Essentially hand and half variants of the more usual cruciform hilted single handed sword these great war swords are most probably the result of the need for a more powerful weapon to combat improvements in the armours being wore at the time.
The longer grip of the war sword facilitated a double handed cut landing a ferocious blow that greatly improved the chances of injuring an armoured opponent on the battlefield, however the sword was still light enough to, and most often was, used in one hand.
1st up I brought it from www.Southernswords.co.uk and they were very polite helped me with a few question and the sword came to my house the next day after ordering, bareing in mind I didn't ask for next day delivery. The sword came well wrapped and protected also well oiled.
Blade Length 97 cm
Blade Width (Widest) 5 cm
Handle - Grip Length 17.1 cm
Overall Length 123 cm Weight. 2.2 kg (4.8 IBs)
My first impressions... I was expecting worse considering ive read and seen alot of bad review's and recommendation's, personally this sword is nice has a very nice look too. Considering its value I brought £97.00 im happy with it.
Inside the box it came with there company card, just a nice way of saying come back for more...
Hilt looks good, i like the design its polished and im not to keen on this as its way to shiny, I love the decorative cross has a Crusader/Templar look to it. Got a nice handle to it feels good in the hand, now fair enough it ways like 4.8Ibs (2.2Kg) you wouldnt be able to use this one handed it'll snap your wrist.
the pommel doesnt really counter weight much, quite blade heavy.
Finally the weight of the sword isnt as bad as some portray , my personal opinion is its not that heavy to be honest what do you expect its 123cm's long and the blade is 97 1/2 cm's long, from the picture... im not sure if this is how you show the swords point of balance but there it is bit blade heavy like i said earlier also it seems like theres something going wrong with the tang because i can hear a weird noise like lose metal rattling around within the handle.
Final Thoughts:
Advantages - Came well oiled and intact, very strong hilt, full tang, love the cross engraved, very sharp point, cant wait to test it out on some bottles.
Disadvantages - Pommel/guard doesnt line up, doesnt come with a scabbard/sheath, the blade could be sharper and the whole sword is polished so to shiny for me, blade heavy and cannot be used one handed.
Historical accuracy - 1.5/5
Structral Intergraty - 2/5
handling/balance - 1/5
Visual looks - 3/5
ovarall 2/5 (my opinion is its a good starter blade but you might as well get a hanwei war sword or henri V for the same price.
..... Now then ive put up some videos the 1st is just a visual look at the sword

now the 2nd... now heres a problem just watch...

as you saw the pommels lose and the guard also, what happened here was i chopped a few spare fence panels with me and my friend and he missed is taget and hit a concrete beam, which took a huge chunk out the beam but only had a small nick and a few sratches on the blade. Only to realise later on at night before i cleaned it it was rattling and then i noticed the lose pommel and guard. My advice dont get a john barnett unless you want a slightly functional blade and a decnt wall hanger, i still stand by it looks nice
