I wish almost every day that I had bought aluminum instead of riveted steel. The weight you save will come as a 'thank you' from your body. Old age and a bad back really bites. I don't give a crap though....I'm still wearing my mail to Ren-Fest!!!

Spend the extra $ on the zinc-plate. The un-plated, raw aluminum leaves gray residue on any underclothes you wear.

That's a good point about demonstration purposes. I hope to show my son's class a full kit and I should opt for realism.

What 28shadow said. For costume wear only, aluminum is great. It is way lighter and more comfortable than steel. And most people won't know the difference However, the non-darkened stuff does oxides and give off a black/silvery stuff that gets all over you. I do not know how durable this darkening is, but I think it would prevent that oxidation. I actually clear coated my aluminum shirt and that works. I am torn on this, as I don't like the longer shirt that goes with it.

Don’t order blindly without check the competitors. I just ordered a Windlass Agincourt sword from KoA as their price beat MRL’s w/sale price.

If you look at different vendors and compare prices, it's really not all that much. MRL's prices are outrageous, compared to other companies prices. They are all most India-made, and probably from the same shop...just a different name. Deepeeka=Lord of Battles=Epic Armoury=Get Dressed for Battle=........Shall I go on?

Thanks for that link. They are by far the most reasonably priced riveted mail manufacturer I have found. I like their customization options too.

ABS will also make custom sheet mail for you. Good to know if you want to replace a crappy, butted helmet aventail with a riveted one!

But the rebate says it can not be combined with any other offer. Wouldn't that mean Deal of the Day, closeout sales or SBG discount offers ?

But the rebate says it can not be combined with any other offer. Wouldn't that mean Deal of the Day, closeout sales or SBG discount offers ? MRL is offering their Agincourt Sword now at $264.95. I failed to see the $350 strike through and ordered thinking that the price would be $198.71 and when checking before authorizing the charge to PayPal $264.95 was showing. I backed out and wrote MRL and thinking the promocode didn’t apply I asked anyway. The reply was that $264.95 was the sale price and the promocode question ignored. However, a 25% discount from the $350 price would have been $262.50. I ordered from KoA, their price was $245 and to take advantage of shipping had them send something else that MRL does not sell. One further thing MRL offers a price match guarantee and I had no reply when stating KoA’s price was $245. How do you like those apples?

Whenever someone offers a " Price Match " I always buy it from the company selling the item as their normal price. Don't like that price match BS, buy it from the company that gives you the lower price without any price match.

Don't like that price match BS, buy it from the company that gives you the lower price without any price match. That was my intent. I only stated to MRL KoA’s price as I had MRL’s email open and it was easy to add a sentence then click the reply button, but got no response. To tell the truth I didn’t see the guarantee until later but MRL didn’t know that. Business must be booming at MRL to the point another sale would be in the way. I got KoA’s shipping confirmation this morning and have alerted my shipping forwarder. Perhaps in a month I’ll be the proud owner of a new sword, if customs will cooperate.

Looks like you are correct, rebate not available on DOD items. I never checked because I don't like rebates. Give me the savings now, not an IOU for something in the future.

4/1 17th Century Italian Rapier $ 199.95 www.museumreplicas.com/17th-century-italian-rapierDidn't find a written review. I did find a video review but it was an entry level review of the subject of rapiers using this Windlass as more of an example. The SBGWEB promo code is still not working. I have contacted MRL and will again. My recommendation, if your planning on buying this piece, pick out the least expensive item they offer and add it to your cart. That will bring your total cost to over $ 200 and you'll qualify for free shipping (at least in the US)
