Hey all, So Ive had this idea for some time now and I think it would be a real asset to anyone designing or customizing their Kat or wak what have you. Imagine: an online flash based application that has many interchangeable blank katana parts ( blade shapes, itomaki styles, Fuchi and kashira, menuki) that one can click and drag onto a model sword to help one design a custom sword. Sort of like those flash gun builder apps except designed specifically for katanas. It would really help visualize Ito color combinations, saya variations, blade styles and fitting choices while allowing you to quickly compare different options on the fly. I'm pretty much picturing an MS paint style interface with color fills for certain parts and outlines for the different parts that can be laid over other components. If there are any flash designers reading this, i think this would be an awesome way to design new swords and share customization ideas and suggestions with other members of the forum/sword loving world. If no one knows how to make this happen, I'll have to bug my Computer Science room mate until he does it for me... Which could take forever Thoughts?

You are describing something like 3rivers archery's Arrow Whiz youtube tutorial on how to use it Arrow Whiz can be seen here www.3riversarchery.com/arrowwhiz.aspIt would be pretty cool to make one for a sword customization. Since we can see it is doable for custom arrows, it would be doable for custom swords too.

Windlass also does much the same thing with their 'Create your Own Sword'. It's not a bad idea and doable... you just have to upload a LOT of different possible designs for tsuka, etc, and figure out how to implement it. If you can do it, awesome... if not, someone probably will sooner or later!

Cool I hadn't seen this before, though it seems pretty limited in how much custom stuff is available.

I would LOVE something like this. I get designs and colour i want from pictures, then copy, cut and paste in paint to get a 'really rough' look. Its hard and looks terrible at the end but it give me a colour idea. Something like this would be PERFECT!!

Ok heres an idea, I will upload a drawing of a standard blade style, If anyone so desires to contribute, they can download the blade and make a part for it on ms paint that fits the dimensions. Upload it all to some group file and after enough people have designed parts etc, we can basically click and drag parts over each other from a parts bank type thing. I'm thinking if we keep the sizes constant with respect to some original blade design, we can make hamons, tsuka Maki styles, menuki etc Just Thinking out loud here, anyone else got ideas?
