was is worth the money ... well read
the sword was ordered in mid August, waiting time is ok.
I had i couple things in mind including a mide and even notare hamon,
just like the SBG Kuramono, i sent some pictures
from the blade, asked them if it was possible, they said no problem.
Also i asked for pictures if the blade was complete.
Mid November i got mail that the sword is done (fully mounted)
I was really dissapointed that the hamon was not what i asked for,
(thats the reason i wanted preview from the blade)
their answer was:
"Because the hamon is naturally created through clay tempered processing, we
can't confirm the hamon type is same as model, it is due to master's skill,
temperature control etc.
The unregular notare hamon looks better than regular, people think it is
natural rather than artificial"
that answer wasn't satisfying for me, but i accepted the sword anyway,
but i really wonder why they confirm it at first
and then try to sell the product anyway
ok now that i got the sword in hand, these are my impressions:
overall very well made, no rattle
(i think you can expect that from a 500$ sword)
Balance is good but a little tip heavy,
the tsuka is nicely waisted and follows the curvature of the blade.
The wrap is good/decent, tight but not rock hard,
dont know if tHey Used HisHigami, kashira is well secured.
A leather seam is very present at the display site,
looks even worst that the pictures can tell - sad.
I ordered the menuki separately, i wanted to glue
them on just like on those raptors - but they forgot.
The first big disappointment is the habaki fit, not centered with gaps,
i might be able to fix that but thats a nogo for this price.
Most important pard - the blade,
the polish is the best available - 13 stages,
looks good but not impressive, little uneven,
if you compare it to the Kuramono IMO it does not look better.
Also asked for a dragon Horimono which looks nice.
The hamon, not what i asked for but still nice with some activity.
The geometric yokote is present, more in a decent way
like on my bamboo mat, but not filed down.
Proper boshi with turnback
And thats a sharp sword guys, very small to no niku,
surely this is a wicked cutter.
The saya is a good tight fit with no rattle
and done in a black/red crackle finish,
you see those a lot on ebay katana,
but they are poorly painted, this saya has a nice texture,
the sageo will be replaced (...)
ALL PICTURES: www.imagebam.com/gallery/prbyrqd ... ig8podd37/
Conclusion:
Was it worth the money, hard to tell.
habaki fit is very dissapointing same for the leather seam,
the hamon issue questionable...
hope you like it
