That's not a horrible idea Wes... I was a fan of windlass for a long time for inexpensive yet nice looking carry pieces.

Well this will be my second time contacting them (hopefully with a reply this time), but worth a shot. This is what I sent them in case anyone is curious:

Hard to say. Someone here bought a Father's Sword, but didn't disassemble it. Without that knowledge, I wouldn't know for sure. However, if it was put together like the Atlantean? I wouldn't recommend cutting *anything* with it, let alone a tatami mat. Similar to the Father's Sword? I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess this one: www.casiberia.com/prod_Detail.aspx?id=SH2404--Edward

I am the culprit who didn't immediately dismantle my $260 new sword...I am scared. I dismantled my Hanwei Mainz and while removing the pommel after the nut unscrewed the handle shattered. The pommel was blind nailed onto the handle. So I was left with a stick...not happy. I was reluctant to have any similar experience with the Father's sword. It seems sturdy, I hack wooden poles along the grain, every cardboard box that arrives via UPS, water bottles and such...no problems as of yet, no loosening. It is way too heavy a beast to be a useful weapon in reality...too heavy to get any speed out of. But it was something I wanted since I was 17 and first saw the film. It is cool as heck and I am very pleased with it. It does what it is supposed to do, it is sharp, it looks accurate, and now it goes on the wall.

Sorry if I do not understand...Are you guys saying that the Windlass Conan swords are not full tang or just have cheap fittings or both?

the general concensus is that they are no safer to use as a real sword than a Chinese Wallhanger. Cheap fittings, unsafe questionable handle construction, Whimpy tang

Well I got a reply. Not that they sounded apologetic in the least lol

Not to get semantic with them, but ZAMAK is totally pot metal; the only thing that makes it different from most no-name varieties is that there are some sort of quality standards for it.

Yeah but it's Zamak! Lol! isn't he a character from Deep Space Nine? If they make this sword any heavier I am going to use it as an anchor for my boat.

They offer these peened, and actual brass and the like and i'll happily look into one. But not until they fix the issues.

I really liked the Robert E. Howard series of books Just thought the movies did not do justice to the character and were -well - a very watered down version for children and teenagers. Conan - but mixed with a McDonalds happy meal. Just think if HBO or one of those networks had a movie or series - would be much better.

Series. You can do a book more justice with a series than you can with a movie. Just look at Game of Thrones.

Yeah, they suck as adaptations (I have gone on about this at length before), but I still think that on its own CtB is one of the best fantasy films ever made. The less said about CtD the better (although Poledouris's music remains awesome). Also, we should really count your blessings, considering Oliver Stone's original script before Milius came on board... On the other hand, short stories (like all of REH's Conan, excluding the one serial novella) are perfectly suited to feature length film adaptation. I was really looking forward to the Red Nails animated feature.

Nice to see you actually got a reply (unlike me). I would probably be interested in the revamped version if they're serious about it. I hope they're aware how much people are holding back with the way it is now.

Having seen and held these swords myself now , I have to say MRL is right... There is a very beefy tang leading up to a threaded end that holds the handle on with an 8mm nut. Much the same as on the MRL GBS I had. I like the Conan swords ... And think I will buy one. It would be nice if they found a better way to attach the pommel though.
