I will just give a brief review of the sword I received this morning from kultofathena.com It was very well packaged shipping time was very fast and was in a box inside a box upon initial inspection of the sword I soon discovered these things about it Its blade at the thickest point of the tang which is very wide is 5/32 its made from what I can tell using the method of steel removal as I seen no detedtable hammer marks Its tempered well but the one I had had a little bit of a twist in the blade edge is serviceable not sharp though now comes the bad stuff the fittings upon inspection I have determined to be pot metal painted bronze they are advertised to be brass which they are not and are poorly cast the pommel is completely hollow with a rubber type of bushing used to secure it to the hollow thin metal handle which the top of the threaded tang is secured with a nut The fittings fit the blade very poorly as the look like they were made for a thicker blade leaving a 1/8 gap between them and the blade the runes are etched in nice and powder coated black like that of the Conan destroyer movie I would not reccomend this sword for purchase as they pommel being secured to nothing and the handle being made me feel this is more of a wallhanger than a functional sword pictures will be added later Needless to say its going back

Damn, man...bummer. Although, at that price point, I had a hard time believing they'd be great.

Wish I could say I was surprised... but I'm not. I had zero faith in these being worth buying from day one. :-(

That's too bad that the sword is built like that, but thanks for posting your impressions.

Regrettable news indeed  I had limited expectations for these straight out of the box but did hold out hope for some interesting project blades.

Well... yeah. The tang sounds like it's a bit over 1/8", which is pretty darn skinny for a blade of that size. If you were willing to replace the grip with a solid wood core and pin or epoxy it in place, though, it might be suitable for *light* cutting. To go further, I would remove the fittings as well and have them re-cast by Jeff Robinson or John Greybeard.
However, if you're going to go that far you might as well custom it up, since the only thing that's left is the blade... and for $300, is it worth it?

Damnit. Being a "Conan" fan, I was hoping to find a good-quality, low-budget 1st movie sword.
This is sad to hear.
Karma for taking a bullet and putting up a review, though.

yeah sorry about no pics yet have to figure out how to transfer my pics over to the site All in all though I was really surprised from the pics in the magizine and the website they look nothing from what I got the bronze fittings had like black splashing on them which made it look worse and the pommel was really oversized to compinsate for the handle going into it in my opinion it could of been solid with a wooden handle and have a nut style design with a peen on top like the darksword braveheart sword but to have a rubber sleeve to hold the pommel on is a bad joke not to mention the fittings are all pot metal the blade was nice just a bit too thin all the weight was from the fittings

That's really disheartening, but thanks for the info man. Windlass should know better! Hope that no one tries to use it!

shameful advertizing by Windlass if the parts are relly painted pot metal. WIth those sharp right angle shoulders it's screaming for a brake at the tang.
I never had any belief this was goig to end up as a good deal. Karma for letting us know firsthand- I hope you get that refund!

Chris, are you talking about these? Far as I can tell, there's misinformation throughout the article; how is threaded "as solid a traditional sword-making arrangement as there is"?

ANd joeydac- reading that thread vincent linked to must hurt you... you had such hopes and fought for this sword to be given a chance--- and it screwed you/ windlass screwed you.

yeah im done with windlass its the third item in a row from them I had problems with if you look at the magizine pics and the pics on kultofathena and my pics its clearly a different sword how I know its pot metal castings is in the center of the pommel you can see the silver metal finish where the bronze paint didn't cover and paint runs in it jot to mention on the guard the casting was so bad you could see sunshine through it in some parts and the blade itself was about a 1/8 in undersized in the riccasso if that wqsnt bad how do you make it with a rubber sim to hold the pommel on how I found out was it pushed loose when I grabbed it with both hands also the hollow metal handle was so thin the tang nut was digging through it at the top it clearly is a accident waiting to happen its a shame I really had my heart set on owning a real Conan sword I guess its just not meant to be In my opinion they should not be labeled battle ready by no means its worse than a depeeka sword kultofathena.com/images/884016_l.jpg

I cannot find the words to adequately describe my disappointment. Anyone who has read my posts on the board will know that I usually champion Windlass and their products. This, in my opinion, verges on the criminal. Would never have happened in Hank's time. I so had my heart set on this. Glad I didn't pre-order the bloody thing!
