Hello TattooMagic. I own the Confederate Cavalry Officer`s Sabre and the US Dragoons Sabre. Conf. Cav. Off. Sabre is a pleasure to handle; very, very manageable and controllable. It`s a sabre I consider to be the most fencible of all I own. Excellent recovery from slashes; meaning you can change the direction of the blade`s travel quickly and easily while cutting/slashing. Excellent control for thrusting; not blade heavy at all. It`s very "pointable". The grip length is also great; not too cramped at all. There`s plenty of room for me to wear unlined leather gloves. It can be manipulated precisely and easily with wrist movements. Feels very lively in the hand. Great sabre. US Dragoons Sabre is a beast of a very, very different sort. Very blade heavy. Difficult to control. Heavy in the hand. Handles like a crowbar. I do not handle this sabre very often at all, it`s so unwieldy. Would be good for skewering large, slow moving opponents if you`re on foot. I think it MIGHT be serviceable in a cavalry charge, in that it`s long and rigid and has a good, sharp point, but it is NOT a sword you want to be fencing or doing much cutting with. Hope this helps a little.

I always order from Kult of Athena. Only once from another dealer, and never again. KOA is my "go to" sword dealer. Their prices are really hard to beat, and the sharpening service, well, I guess it`s worth it if you don`t want to do it yourself. I`ve gotten nice, sharp swords with this additional service. If you see a Conf. Cav. Off. Sabre at another site for much cheaper, be aware that it may NOT be a Windlass sabre, but a cheapo cut-rate monstrosity, unless they specifically advertise it as a Windlass. Deepeeka I believe makes some Civil War type articles that resemble some sabres made by Windlass. Deepeeka is essentially scrap. No good for use. I have bought one such article, and never will do so again. Like I said, I like Kult of Athena; I know what I`ll get when I buy from them. Windlass sabres I find to be generally good for the price. I also don`t like to pay much more than $200 for a functional sabre, and I know I can get what I want from KOA and their Windlass offerings. Best wishes with this.
