I guess someone needs to Netflix it and check it out, or is this a new series that hasn't come out yet?

If I had my collection still, I would happily. But its down to only a few pieces, and only one is much good, and its stripped down to have a new grip soon.

Note the name folks, "My collecting OBSESSION", its not called "My Very Healthy Hobby." Since shows like "Hoarders" are whats in right now, Iam guessing this may be along the same lines.

For those of you who have already expressed this similar opinion, this was also my impression after reading the promotional material.

The show has been running since August and iirc from the blurb was premiered with a 16 year old collecting vacuum cleaners. There is some media buzz about it and the differences between hoarding and obsession. Sure, there is bound to be some overlap. A simple news or media search finds all about the show. Another show was about a woman collecting dolls and her having in one line of them has spent over a thousand dollars apiece and has bought 20 of them with no end in sight.
No doubt that TLC will be profiling any candidate/applicant to present them in the best light and I would expect a fair compensation beyond the basic paycheck. From reading about just a couple of episodes I don't see even the ones being nominated as being what they are really looking for anyway. They'll be looking for someone with all they can find of a genre, say every movie sword they can find and then have categorized more in similar fashion. Even the big collectors we see on the boards are really not in the same league as what they are looking to portray but you never know that there might be someone. There was someone on SFI a few years ago I don't remember the name of but had the whole house decked out mostly with fantasy swords but then room after room of armor shields and other weapons. I think he was selling though so he might not be in the mood either.

i would be more than glad to show my collection obsession of swords as well as represent the seriously upward staus of SBG in sword collecting with a note of training in the CMA.

I do think that they might well want to present it in a bit of a 'look at the crazy sword guy' thing, but they did say they are interested to see some backyard cutting, and I am thinking that perhaps it might strike a chord with some viewers who had always been a latent sword lover but didn't know that it was possible.. That's pretty much why I think it would be a good thing and why I'd pass it on to see if anyone is interested. If not, no harm done.. So Sir Tre and anyone else who wants to represent the community, send me a quick PM and I'll pass on your email address to the producers and you can let us know how it goes in this thread...! - Paul

I actually would love to do something like this... sadly, I just don't think my collection is up to snuff.

I agree Sean. This would be a lot of fun just to show the world that these things are awesome...and not...weird. I cant tell how many times I've told people "I collect, use and customize japanese styled swords." And they look at me with an odd expression. As soon as I start cutting bottles they think its awesome. I'd love to see one of you guys on TV personally. My collection consists of only 4 blades so its nothing special at all. But some of you guysa have some really amazing collections. Especially the custom sword guys.

I wouldn't mind doing some cutting on tv, however my collection in the last couple years has condensed way down, most of which went to members of this forum....

Yeh... but for a collection 'obsession' they are going to want to see an impressive collection... something over the top. My 40 or so swords would not cut it anymore...

I would have loved to do this. I have years of experience with not only swords but dealing with Hollywood entertainment types as well. I know how to keep production egos in check. Alas, I don't even qualify as a collector anymore seeing as I only have one sword left. In 2006-09 I would have done this for sure. I wonder if I can talk Mike Edelson in to this? That is if you all are not going to bite.

Ohhh...Michael Edelson for the win. Dude runs a historical fencing academy and uses a Brescia Spadona as his 'workhorse' cutter. He's also got at least one back-up Brescia as well and a host of other nice longswords and arming swords, and I believe he owns an authentic nihonto that he cuts with from time to time. Don't think his collection is enormous by any means, but he'd represent the sword-hobby damn well.
