I was recently contacted by the Associate Producer Jessica Riberio from the upcoming TV show, "My Collection Obsession" ( press.discovery.com/us/tlc/progr ... obsession/) In her own words: "We are currently casting for our first season, and are on the hunt for serious and dedicated collectors that would like to showcase and their prized collections and share their passionate pursuits for the next great piece" The only caveat is that you have to be in the US, but if your interested in representing our community and have the credentials post your interest and we will see what comes of it! - Paul

That would be fun... maybe a couple years ago when my collection was around 60+ swords I might have been decent... but even then the quality of my collection was not up to par I don't think. Someone like ShooterMike would be perfect for this. To bad SwordLord isn't in country.

I'd recommend Shooter Mike for sure. What does he have, like 200 swords in his collection by now?

Not quite so man... but the quality of his collection is impressive... lots of Albion's and Atrims... and many custom scabbards from Brian.

Yup... the only thing more impressive then Mike's sword collection, I suspect, is his gun collection.

You know... I'd rather not be the criminal who tries to break into Mike's house...
Btw, where is Mike? Haven't seen him on the forum for a while!!

Aye... having visited Mike at his home, I can tell ya, anyone stupid enough to try and break in their and rob him is likely to get multiple rounds of 'Texas Justice'...

That's the sort of stuff for a different thread or no thread at all, mate. This is about a tv show about collectors, not about intruder-killing or a country's level of security. Please drop it and/or move it somewhere else.
Besides, nobody's going to give out somebody's home address on a TLC show.

Ever watch "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" or some other home improvement show? They'll mention state and sometimes town, but they'll hardly ever mention an address. They do this precisely for giving the subject of the episode a degree of privacy. If they were going to give out that much personal information on air, they would be legally liable for anything that resulted after that which could be connected to the show. So, that part probably isn't going to happen. If someone wants to badly enough, they can find out where *anybody* lives without needing to watch a television show.
So, like Luna says, that tangent is neither here nor there.
Regarding the subject: Mike is probably an excellent bet, but I'll happily support anybody from this board who gets signed up!

Getting on a public forum and exchanging emails with other folks interested in what I'm interested in is about as much public exposure as I care for now a days. Hardly watch TV anymore. Can't stand the frenzied nothingness of fractile drama wedged between shrill commercials, bad news and dancing publicity hounds prostituting themselves for 15 seconds of fame. ( Does that sound enough like an ole geezzer for ya? )
Just not much interested in having a film crew screwing with my life and property trying to create atmosphere for a soundbite. My collecting isn't as dynamic as it was when I had nothing and was wide eyed crazy for all the candy in the shop. Still shopping, but every buy up will probably mean having to part with something I thought was precious to make room.
Appreciate the nomination, but not in the least bit interested...

I don't blame you in the least... I watch little TV as well, and to me it seems from the title of the show , that it is not going to be putting the collector in the best light..."my Collection Obsession" ... Sounds like a Jerry Springer freak show feel.

Ditto for me. And I, for one, greatly identify with the sentiments Findlithui expressed. It's just not that hard to find someone when your a conniving theif who does it for a living. He makes some very valid points.
Thanks for thinking of me, but I think I will pass. Besides, all my stuff is crammed into my home office. It really wouldn't make a very good showing. And I really don't have as much stuff as everyone thinks.

Fair do's, it would be impressive to see a nice collection of swords on national television one of these days though...

Mike, Dave, think of it this way; it's an opportunity to give more credence to collectors like us while not looking like a wide eyed nut job. Both of you know how to explain swords, the different types, terms, etc. Both have impressive collections and both can dispel all the myths. It'll show folks that you can be succesful in life and maintain this as a serious hobby. That we're not a bunch of geeks walking around a conventions dressed up like Thor or the black knight (well, not all of us. ). Having said that, I can completely understand why y'all decline. Hey Paul, why don't you do it? Great exposure for the site.

He said it had to be someone in the USA... I suspect that is the only reason Paul himself doesn't do it. I call BS. I've seen your swords... you have a LOT. You even had some hiding in the closet you had forgotten. However... its not just the volume in your collection... its the quality of the collection.

To me it looks like a good opportunity to dispel some myths about swords in general. Heck if there are lot's of people watching it, it might create some interest into sword collecting. I would be interested too if I had not sold off most of my sword collections.

I think this would be cool and I think the whole "people are going to rob me if I'm on TV" thing is a little paranoid. My one concern, like Marc said, is that this is just going to be a glorified freak show along the lines of that "My Strange Addiction" thing. They'll probably show up and be totally friendly with you while filming, seem totally interested in your collection, then when it goes through editing they'll highlight all the parts where you might have made an odd face or something, play sideshow-esque music over it, and talk down on you the entire time, trying to paint you as some guy who's entire life revolves around his swords.
