Introduction
hello my name is Cary.
i am new to Swords so this will be my first sword review.Sorry if it dont stand up to other review's and if i miss spell some things.
Ok so lets Jump in. I was looking for a Sub 150 blade and after many days of looking and reading and asking many many question's and with the help of SGB especially (Adrian). i decided to get something from the 1060 Musashi line but not just any. I got the Speckled Burgundy Katana. The first one in there line they made with out a BO-HI. That had me sold.
Historical overview
I would be lieing if i said i knew any thing about the Historical part of this sword
Initial Impressions
Well i order the sword from Trueswords on a thursday and it arrived the following saturday. only 2days Really fast It came in a normal brown Box.Inside the brown box was another box (Boxinception) lol.But it was just a plane musashi box. That was fine with me i dont like when they spend money on a fancy box when they could have spent it on the Blade.Once i got it out the box it was in a nice black cotton Bag again nothing fancy. Finally pulling the sword out i was in awe.The saya was breath takeing over all my first Impressions it looked great!
Statistics
Blade Length: 27"
Handle/Tsuka Length: 11"
Overall Length: 41"
Guard/Tsuba Width: 3"
Balance): is good fells really nice
Weight: not sure i think around 2 or 3 lb
The Blade/Nagasa
the Blade is beautiful the picture does not do it Justice. It has a really nice hamon i was surprised at how well you could see it. And it was Really really sharp
The Handle/Tsuka
Nothing fancy. was tight wraped in brown cotton. I believe it does alternate.Every thibg was tight no rattle.I have not taken it appart yet but there seems to be no cracks or damage
The Guard/Tsuba
I love this Tsuba its really nicely detailed and fits tight. It really makes this sword look like a sub 300 sword.
Fittings.
are really nice for the price they seem to be brass and fit Really nicely
The Scabbard/Saya.
This is amazing. there nothing i can really other then it fits the blade perfectly. And well it just lights up in the sunlight
Handling Characteristics
I have not gotton to Cutt with in yet (waittng on my oli) But i did swing it around the wight was really nice. felt really good. really easy to swing and stop and Fells really solid.I have not handled many swords but this is how i imagined it.The sword moves with grace.
Test Cutting
Well have this info soon
Conclusions
Over all im amazed at the quality of this sword. If they wanted to they could get more then $80 for this easy. The fittings are nice for the price. Blade is just OMG good looking with that clay temp Hamon. The tio was wraped Really tight.Over all if your looking for a great sub 150 sword that looks great and can Cut this is the sword for you.
Next, to sum up you can list the:
Pros
Real Hamon
Good fittings
God balance
No Bo-hi (personal preference)
Cons
For $80 you would have to nick pick to find a con. hell for $139 you would still have to nick pick lol but i guess if i have to here we go
i dont care to much for the Sageo
tahst the only con i have other then you cant cut really heavy bamboo but thats not a problem
The Bottom Line
i would buy this again ..
EDIT So i have had this sword for a while i have cut with it ALOT about 3 days out of a week i go cutting. I have Cut Bottles 'Heavy Bottles' Mats. I have even hit my stand a Couple of times and the sword has held up great the edge never rolled. The blade did take a bend on my stand but bent back easy.It was great to learn "the waht not to do with a good Katana stuff" so im 100% happy and fell ready to move on to a more Expensive katana.
