hey everyone, anyone ever see or hear of a functional master sword? I've only every seen two and both were privately made and are owned by the smith.

I think I've seen three of them, at least two. Though, the only one I can name for sure now is the one Castle Keep made. (Which I assume to be functional, otherwise I don't see the point of ordering a custom one from a reputed smith.) www.castlekeep.co.uk/gallery.asp?galleryid=226Of course, given the design, "functional" is a relative term in this context.

that one looks pretty good. but the one I saw in an issue of nintendo power last year blew that one out of the water. ill try to find the issue and post the pics for you all. unfortunately its not for sale and a one of a kind made by the smith for his daughter.

I remember this question being in the old forum, and I still have the link (no pun intended) of the sword made and posted in Sword Forum International: www.swordforum.com/forums/showth ... -completed Overall, I have to say that I like this incarnation a little more than the the CastleKeep one. The Castlekeep is a little more faithful to the original design, but the fittings look plastic in nature due to being painted as opposed to the aluminum fittings of the SFI one that was not allegedly painted or plated. 3lb 5 oz is pretty darn impressive for the Master Sword design in my opinion because of the blade length and geometry where there's practically no tapering with no fuller to help with the weight. Personally I'd like to see a custom smith take a stab at making Twlight Princess' Ordon sword because it would be a lot easier to make a functional and good performing version.

id like to see a realistic version done, where it keeps true to the original design, but makes i more practical. Gve it distil taper, slim down the guard, dont make it wierd blue and purple colors, but maybe give it an antiqued bronze look so it looks like its really been locked in a chamber for eternity.

Personally I don't mind the purple/blue fitting as long as they are darker in color like the one of SFI, but the original version in A Link to the Past had silver colored fittings: I too would like to see a version with slimmed down fittings so that they did not look quite so bulky. The real challenge is cutting down the weight of the blade I think, which forces the makers to generally keep the fittings a bit large so that the PoB and balancing in general is not completely thrown off.

the blade just needs some distil taper. and you could hollow grind the edge bevels, that would take off alot of weight, and make it a hell of a cutter

These are my favorite references to the master sword. 3.bp.blogspot.com/-GZ9vilJgA6E/T ... 600/MS.jpg www.zeldawiki.org/images/9/9c/Master_Sword.pngThey are both from A Link to the Past (Also the best Zelda game ever) and I think are the most realistic designs. I own a wall-hanger version of the Twilight Princess iteration, and the weird spikes coming out of the bottom of the crossguard constantly bite into your hands when you swing it. It's a perfect example of anime-artists designing completely non-functional weapons. I know the two designs I Linked (pun way intended) are far from realistic, but I think they stand the best chance of being translated into something usable that you would still recognize as the Sword of Evil's Bane.

Calling that the Master Sword is a pretty huge stretch. The Triforce emblem looks like it was scratched on by a blind, two fingered man with coffee jitters. They have some beautiful weapons on that site, but this Zelda inspired sword is not one of them.
