I agree with you on that if the pen is not done well or like in the case of a hanwei I saw that they hollowed out the pommel and extended the grip through it in order to pen it its trouble waiting to happen you have alot of lateral forces at play when you swing a sword into a target that impact is transferred to the pommel peen and if the sword tang components are not form fit to the tang you stand to have failure at the peen all swords should be pinned at the hilt or the guard with a pin for safety and strength which can be easily removed for service

It's just my personal opinion, but I don't feel that swords should be made to be taken apart. Every time it's taken apart and put back together, the parts will be ever so slightly worn. It's not a piece of machinery with moving parts that need lubrication or adjustment. If everything is permently fixed and the grip is epoxied in place, there shouldn't ever be any need to take it apart and nothing to service. If it were to get wet, the tang would be protected by the epoxy, the end of the tang by the peen on the pommel, and any moisture that wicked in between the guard and blade could be blown out with air or a squirt of moisture displacing lube. I do understand that some people like to be able to take their swords apart, I just personaly believe it's not necessary or even good for the sword. But yeah, a "peen" that was done on a reemed out threaded pommel is just tying to meet consumer demand in a poorly done way IMO. I think that would be a cool idea. At one time I was thinking about making a steel waster with the Atlantean parts to have an Atlantean I could spar with. The idea came to me when someone said (after seeing my 6 1/2 pound Atlantean) "I'd like to see you try and fight with that", and me thinking "pffft, I could fight with it, not for hours at a time, but I think I could effectively fight with it... grumble grumble grumble." Hey Alexander, I think you meant to quote this part Not to fear, we talked her out of it ($30 for three of us to go to a movie or $2 to get a couple from Redbox). By the way, The Adjustment Bureau is very good and Sucker Punch is craptacular.

Chuck pretty well covered the difference of the recessed hex nut system that Tinker and Atrim swords use, vs the screw on pommel that DSA used to use and some Windlass and Hanwei swords use. My experience has mirrored his own. I've had screw on pommels fail but have not had a recessed hex nut system on a Tinker or Atrim fail. I HATE screw on pommels for multiple reasons. The security/safety issue is one big one... another is that if the pommel is not perfectly symmetrical, then a screw on pommel will ALWAYS end up out of alignment. When you use the sword and stress the pommel, you'll have to tighten it more... and then the pommel will be off in alignment. That sucks. Screw on pommels are cheap, less safe, and by no means as good a method for sword assembly as there is, which is what the writer of the review suggested. That's total BS. I've moved to agreeing with Jeffery in my preference of peened swords over my collecting. If done right, it will last you a lifetime... its more historical, better looking... and is my preference now. Also, you often don't see evidence of peening on Albion swords... but they all are... you know why you don't see evidence of peening? Cuz they do it very, very well. I've owned just under 10 Albion swords now... and most of them the peen was so smooth and seamless that you have to really look at it close to see it... unlike the messy Hanwei and Windlass peens you often see. Again, better quality... but you pay for it. As to Darksword Armory... they used to use screw on pommels... but the also did a strange hybrid thing with them where the 'hot threaded' the tangs... they heated them up and applied epoxy as they screwed em on... making them more sturdy then an average screw on pommel... but if they did come lose then they were just as bad as any other screw on pommel. Now all but maybe 2-3 of their models are peened.

i just dont understand why when they are making these swords they cant pin the tang to the handle with a single pin before they put the leather wrap on it would eliminate the chance of any failure in which the blade would become a helicopter it just makes sense i read once that the reason katanas were only pinned so after a battle the blades could be broken down and repaired be the blacksmith why was that theory not applied to euro swords it makes sence im not saying a bamboo pin in the handle but a pin in the hilt a pin in the cross amd a pin in the pommel and your good to go

As long as one accepts that they're not going to come up to Albion standards of being accurate to the screen-used models, and that they're going to be heavy beasts of swords (not that the Albions are any better), I think most people will be happy with these, and under $300 stock price?!!?! *THAT* is the most awesome part

I'm gonna say this they have 5 new lines that are very attractive to the beginner sword buyer through veteran for the money they are asking for in this economy they need to step it up on q/c or there gonna fail I just bought a deal of the day which I will never do again after 2 times getting items that clearly should have been rejected You don't sell a axe with a handle that's 1/8 in smaller than the eye of the axe and just pin it and still ship it out with the head loose

Does anyone know if MuseumReplicas charges right away for pre-orders or if they charge later when they go to ship?

Yep - the Dragon Axe. Hope mine turns out better. Will take a week or two to get here. Did the etchings run all the way to the edge on the one you got?
