So, I was watching the ol' Colbert Report tonight, and Stephen started right off with some great LoTR references, and showed off quite a few of his collectibles. The greatest of which being what looks like an actual Weta Replica of Anduril. I remember seeing it hanging on his wall before and not thinking much of it, thinking it was probably a UC reproduction, but he mentioned that Viggo Mortensen actually gave it to him, so I did some googling. This is pretty freaking awesome. www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/102805/september-13-2007/stephen-for-president---answering-the-call?xrs=share_copySome great quotes from the movies there...and I think it's authentic just based on the details and scale. I need to get my own political satire show.

DUDE. Hell yes. It even looks like it has hollow-ground primary bevels in this picture, so I'm willing to believe it's one of P Lyon's "Master Swordsmith" versions. Wow.

I never would have suspected.
If that is the WETA/Lyons version of Anduril, it is indeed worthy of our collective jealousy.
Just goes to reinforce the old "Judging a book by its cover" saying eh? I just became a fan of the "Colbert Report"

I have long been a fan of Colbert. He is an admitted old D&D player... he has some swords, he has a Captain America Shield replica that Marvel Comics gave him... he is all kinds of geek cool. I'd love to hang out with that guy.

I never really watched his show with any regularity, just here and there. I never knew that he was a geek like the rest of us, I will be more of a loyal viewer from here on out.

Oh yeah... Colbert is an all time epic geek. He is one of my fantasy picks for a good game of D&D... along with Vin Diesel, Kevin Smith, Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon, and Metallica!

Good picks. I thought it was pretty badass when Vin Diesel admitted to being a D&D player.

Viggo Mortenson gave Colbert The hero prop Anduril that was given to him at the end of filming LOTR. Not a WETA reproduction.

No you can't. In the video it's covered in fingerprints; in the picture nothing's discernable. Since Lyon hand-grinds the hollows of his blades on a linisher after forging or stock removal it would be very unlikely that any hammer marks would be present.

Just a quick question, Luna... 'linisher'? Is that a typo? Because if that's an actual tool I've actually never heard of that before... just curious!

How do you know that Owl? Viggo treasured that sword from the film... I find it hard to believe he would give it to Colbert.

Not a typo, just a term for a grinder or sander that can be used to linish a sizeable surface. First heard it here: www.wetanz.com/assets/videos/swo ... dVideo.mov I also find it hard to believe that Viggo would give away his hero sword from filming. I could MAYBE see it since I know he has his ranger sword as well and gave away the Anduril because he wasn't as close to it, but still. That seems like a stretch. I'm almost positive Colbert has a Master Swordsmith's Collection Anduril.

Because I've read interviews with both of them where they talk about it. One was in Entertainment Weekly I believe, it was when they covered Colbert's bid for the presidency. The other was a random interview with Viggo. I don't remember where. According to the LOTR special features, Viggo treasured his ranger sword, but if you read up on the guy, you wouldn't be surprised to hear that he gave away his prized possessions if he thought it was for the right reason. I also wouldn't be surprised if Viggo got the hero prop of both swords at the end of filming.
