Anyone have experience with it? Cold Steel's name is branded on it with a video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=HxFJmx5ymiI) but they might just be making it look a lot better than it really is.
And assuming it's as great as the video, where would a reputable and cheap vendor be?
Many thanks!

I have been using one for about 3-4 years now. It does everything they say. It is a brutally effective tool for all kinds of uses. It is a much better cutter than shovel. I've even cut down a couple of decent sized (3" base) trees with mine when it's all I had handy. I will never be without one again.
In fact, my girlfriend (quite the outdoor worker) saw mine and HAD to have one for her birthday! She uses hers pretty frequently too.
When I bought mine, it came very sharp. But when I got hers last year, it was dull and took quite a bit of effort to sharpen. It would be worth asking the retailer if they have a sharp version. Or be prepared to do some work to put edges on it.

Yes, I know, I'm pretty late on this...but...Bladematrix is another good place to buy (New Graham rocks too). I've done a TON of business with Kendall (owner of bladematrix) over the last few years with no troubles whatsoever. I also had a lengthy phone conversation with him when I returned my Cold Steel 1796 saber (which CS decided to change and not tell anybody ), and he's a genuinely nice gentleman. www.bladematrix.tv/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=27758

This is probably the best product made by Cold Steel (when factoring in usage and price point). Every household in America should own one (actually more than one). Simply indispensable in the back of a truck, you can shovel sand, dirt, whatever...cut branches in the middle of the road, and it beats any knife in combat (but even better paired with one). What a useful item!

This is a no-brainer good buy so I just ordered one. Woot!

Remove branches from road, dig out of ditch, shovel gravel under tires...and the anti-zombie/bad guy potential..."your honor, I only hit him with a shovel, and didn't mean to nearly decapitate him with a single blow".

I have one in the trunk of my car at all times. I live in a small town near wine country and there are a lot of animals around.
I was out with my wife and we came across a snake that had just been run over mid body, minutes before we got there. It was suffering, poor thing, so I used my pocket knife to take it's head off to be merciful. I bought the SF shovel after that for the next time.
For animal dispatching, it will do the job.

it would be my choice for the Alone TV show, in place of axe and saw, if I was allowed to change the angle of one side of the blade, giving me 8" of saw edge, with the teeth offset like they should be, to cut a real kerf in wood Pair it with a modfified Crunch multitool and I could win the challenge rather handily. I'd prefer to do what I really do in normall life, and just have a couple of saw blades to be held in the vicegrip of the Crunch, but for the show, that would be 2 tools, not just one. Hence the saw edge for the shovel. They are not allowed to cut green trees of bigger than 8" diameter anyway, you know. Cut an 8" tree 2" deep all around and you can then break it off. Or cut out wedges with the chopper edge and make another saw cut all the way around. This could be dangerous with a tall, 8" tree, of course. Point is, you dont have to cut wood nearly as much as people "think". What you do is create a siberian fire lay and then just scoot-forward the logs as the fire consumes them.
for igniting them, a pair of alternate swede torches gets the siberian going swiftly and easily. I just use a bit of steel wire to hold together 4 of the 3" OD, foot long logs, with tinder between them. Hold the swede upside down as you light it with your lighter, stand it up under the ends of the siberian propped up logs and in 10 minutes, max, you'll have a roaring fire that "projects" its heat 2m, all in one direction.

Siberian All Night Log, and the mechanics behind it, was very cool.
