Hello everyone Here are three new products from TFW. A Kukri and Two Chniese-style blades (a Dao and a Jian). Check 'em out. I like the Dao and the Kukri. Not completely traditional (especially the Kurki), but quite nice IMO ; ... 20Dao.html www.traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Kukri.html ... 0Jian.html

Nice. That kukri looks MEAN.
I've long lusted after their Lahot and Itak Tagalog #2. Never gotta around to handling any of their stuff, though.

Man, I'd love to handle that Dhao. Ground down and distal tapered from 1/4th inch stock? That's gonna be a kicker if they do it right.

I knew about the kukri, but you just made my day with regards to the dao and jian, Sebastien.

They do seem to share a similar aesthetic. I wonder if they share a forge or something? Seeing as they're both based in the Philippines...

They might... that would be a good thing in my opinion. I've had a Kris Cutlery Gim sword... and the TPW Jian is coming my way now, so I will report.

I have one of TFW's Filipino saber (a Pinute, there's a review somewhere on this forum ...) and it is one helluva blade. Stellar handling, extremely efficient edge, nice fittings ect. If those new swords are at that level of quality, their owners are in for a treat. However, I am not certain that these blades come from the same forge as Kris Cutlery. Even if they do, it wouldn't be a bad thing, considering KC track record. Anyway, Sean ; make sure to give some input to your fellow forumnites when you get your new toy

Have sent a couple e-mails back and forth with Ron from TFW after ordering the Jian... he directed me to a vid on their Kukri on YouTube here: Looks pretty beefy.

very cool. I just bought a kukri literally...30 mins ago from GK
It's very awesome to see some more modern renditions coming out and at 13" this one is pretty big. The craftsmanship looks very nice on their site ~

That's a strong testimony to the blade's hitting power ... Althought I think tree lovers will probably be a bit offended by seeing this guy chop down two green-leaved trees

Funny you should say so... I myself often speak out against tree violence... and I told him as much in my e-mail to him last. I do hate to see trees needless killed, but it sure did showcase that this is a tough chopper.

Awh man. I'm never reading another thread of yours Sebastien. Every time I click one it's going to wind up costing at least a few bucks. Wish list...too big... I adore that dao, the kukri is a close second. I've wanted one from himalayan imports, but I've been a bit unsure about the handle. Problem solved, and it looks like you still get an awesome blade.

OK, I just this morning ordered the Dao from TFW, Ron sent me an email thanking me for my order and telling me he'd get it shipped out first thing in the morning. I like that personal touch, instead of an automated form letter. He asked me to let him know what I think of the Dao once I get it, so I'll probably do a mini-review here and send him a link.

I received the dao today, VERY fast shipping, I was impressed. It's a real looker, and solid feeling, not the least flimsy or wobbly. Feels good in the hand, nice balance. My single real complaint about the sword is that it's dull. Ron offered to take it back and replace it with a sharp one, he said these are individually hand made and once in awhile a flaw sneaks through but I'm looking forward to practicing Tom K,'s sharpening method on her, and besides I already feel like she's my sword, warts and all. A replacement might not fit my hand so well or balance so nicely. I plan to write a short review in the coming weeks after I sharpen it and get to cut some bottles with it but for right now I'll say it's a lot of sword for the money and I'm very, very impressed with Traditional Filipino Weapons, their service is top notch.
