Hey Everyone, I was trolling around MRL and I came across this: www.museumreplicas.com/p-1746-18 ... sword.aspx It looks very interesting. Being that it is on MRL, I can only assume that it's from Windlass, but it doesn't say. Not quite the dimensions of most other small swords I have seen, but I like the ornate hilt. Has anyone seen this sword before, is this possibly a re-issue of a Windlass?

Oooh.
There's a goof in the stats, OAL is listed at 46" with a 30" blade. Hmm, darn near two pounds?
Still, interesting, interesting.

More like a spadroon than a smallsword.

A stylized loop hilt smallsword with a lot of weight in the hilt. That's a broadsword blade so I don't think its a spadroon. Windlass really does look like they cater to the costuming crowd and it looks fine for that. www.myarmoury.com/review_aa_loop.html

Especially with their reputation for little to no distal taper.

Yeah, I would not call that a smallsword. Spadroon is probably closer - some kind of militarized hybrid of the same era as the smallsword, I guess.

Spadroon or smallsword, it still looks rather nice, although my most pressing question is whether or not the belt clip comes off the scabbard.

It will with some clippers In a few months, when I can actually grab some of these, I might well grab one and review it. M.

Too bad there's so many smallswords out there that go unreviewed, it seems like Dynasty Forge has also had one one their site without a price listed for more than half a year. The Windlass does seem awfully heavy, almost half a pound heavier than even the Cold Steel offering, and almost a pound more than the A&A and originals. I recall reading, however, that this style of belt clip is historically accurate and was actually quite popular in its time.

I like the look of this one. I know it is heavy, but it still looks good.
