Pretty darned simple really.
I think the PVC was under 2 dollars and the string I had laying around.
I HIGHLY recommend this little project. Took me all of 5 minutes to put together.
I plan on finding something to stiffen up the middle of this current bow. It's already starting to take a bend.

LOL you really love the theory/idea of apocalypse dont you. Me too I have for years...
Anyway nice bit of 'wasteland' inginuity/scavenging there....Guess would be an option if you broke your real bow or whatever, or needed quick makeshift range weapon, and wanna be a bit more advanced than a 'rock thrower'. The ARROW WAS EPIC!!!!!! LOL thanx for leaving the branch arrow shot in there, that was gold.
*Apocalypse, night time, your armed with pvc bow and branch arrow*....
*Two angry bad ass son of semprinies are raping and pillaging and doing there thing*
*A hero emerges from a nearby ruined building*
"Hey leave her alone you bastards" *Notches branch arrow on pvc bowstring* ( a look of conecntration mixed with fear and adrenaline crosses his face) "I warned you scumbags!"......
*lets fly with the 'arrow'....*
*botches in horridly: arrow falls a metre to the left of the bow then harmlessly lands on ground*
*Two psychos start laughing then run at 'hero'*
Awesome vid BTW, that was excellent, thoroughly enjoyed. +1 LOL
*'hero' ethier runs and leaves them to rape and pillage, or is brutally beaten to death*
Maybe I should do cartoons too huh dodger....

If you didn't have to cut the notches for the string you could have a dual porpose bow/blowgun.

@sambo- HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA, well, if it were me as the hero, I'd just unsling the dufflebag of swords off my back and pick one at random But yeah, I don't take myself to seriously. I'm not on youtube to look badass or anything, I'm there to inform and entertain. If I would have used a thicker branch and cut a proper nock in the arrow, I'm sure it would have worked out better. On my later bow tests, I'll retry the arrow thing. Fallen: Ya know, you could probably remove the string and cover the gap with some duct tape for a blow gun. If I were to do it again, I'd get a straight through connector to slip over the end of the bow, then cut the notch in that. Then, just leave it up to compression to keep the thing on and take it off when I needed a blow gun. But, the bend that the pipe has taken wouldn't make a horribly accurate blow gun.

LoL, it'd have to be a radio broadcast. I don't have the face for TV.

No No. It has to be TV. It would be kind of like Mythbusters and The Red Green show all rolled into one. You have the right look for this show believe me. Kind of a serious attitude with a happy go lucky personality.

Radiowould be cool too. Lol not that id be anywhere near broadcast range, unfortunatley, or id tune in. Yeah im sure ya could get some effective arrows too. Luckily we can still buy them for now, doesnt really concern me personally though as I have sold my compound bow. I like the Blow gun idea too. I think we should have a SBG rendevoux point for ZA LOL.

Epic, I loved the branch arrow even if it didn't work as planned. Thanks for sharing this.

Crap! I forgot to turn on the cloaking device! You've found me out...
Really, it's a shield generator that currently houses a lawn mower and various yard working accoutrements.

Hey Greg, if you do end up with a show, I'd like to have a little section in it called "Averys' apocalyptic good times", where I show how to strain antifreeze through bread to get alcohol (nobody try that, seriously), knowing how do identify homeopathic plants from poison oak, and demonstrating how an old dishwashers glove can become an improvised condom if you've been in the wastelands too long and come across a hot looking zombie.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA Only been a zed head for 2 hours and it's just a small scratch on her shoulder. Hiroshi: The draw weight on THIS bow is 25lbs at 28". Well, it was when I first built it. After 100 arrows, it's dropped to about 23 lbs now. Eventually, JUST a pvc pipe will become unuseable as a bow, unless you then start to make it recurve, and then I'm sure you could get another 1000 arrows outta it. But I highly recommend this as just a fun weekend project. Heck, bring the wife and kids, fun for the whole family! But! I have build version 2 of the bow with a reinforced core. Works MUCH better and hasn't taken a set. I have a video that I need to edit and post that shows v1 and v2, and I also shoot some tatami!
