Hello there. As a long time sword collector and backyard cutter Ive obviously bought a fair share of swords. However im also a student of tang soo do, a Korean art. My study of tang soo do has helped me with alot of everyday problems and so i recently decided that i should get something to symbolize my respect for the Korean arts and as a sword lover i figured what better than a Korean sword. however... i cant find one for the life of me. can anyone recommend some nice korean swords ? maybe some reviews ? anything at all would be helpful. thank you.

Hanwei made one, but it is very similer to a Katana, so that should make it easyer!! ...SanMarc.

The only ones I can really think of are the Munetoshi Yuki line from SwordNArmory; Midori's review is here. I believe this review would hold true for the entire line, with some differences between the quality of fittings. As SanMarc pointed out, Hanwei used to make one, but they discontinued it; however, Kult of Athena still sells it here. No actual reviews on it that I've found (and I've looked; I used to be rather curious about it), but member Vayudong sold one some time ago and remarked that it was a light and fast sword, as well as being rather short, which you can see for yourself at Kult of Athena.

Kris Cutlery made a sempriniin' Korean sword back in the day. Wonder if they still offer it? **EDIT*** And the answer is YES. Korean Sword IIAnd here's a review! (of the old version, that is) Dude uses it to cut free-hanging paper and EMPTY water bottles. Korean Sword Prototype

If it weren't for the synthetic ito and fake hamon, I would already own the Kris Korean sword. I do really like its subdued, elegant style.
Edit: Or maybe just the one in the review had fake hamon? Ah yes, the production version is differentially hardened. Hmm... I might have to pick this one up in the future when I'm not broke and get it rewrapped... yeah...

Thanks for the tip dylan. I just ordered one. The one on sale is the Korean Sword IIp, which features black synthetic cord handle wrap and a permanently glued on handle. I'm not a fan of these features but the blade looks interesting and I could always get it remounted sometime down the road. I'm excited. I'd been toying with the idea of picking this one up for a long time. I am Korean, after all. It's about time I got a Korean style sword.

And theres the expensive option, MartialArtSwords.com. I spend a good amount of time on that site drooling, since I study a Korean sword art.

I do Tang Soo Do as well as Haidong Gumdo (Korean Sword)... 1 Dan in each. There are really only a few good commercially available places that sell Korean Swords. Jingum.com (martialartsswords.com) is good. But, the best swords come from the Haidong Gumdo schools I think. They are pricy, but are very good cutters and last well. But, I think you have to be certified as a blackbelt to buy one from them. You can check around though for local schools and ask them. I don't know of any under a few hundred dollars though.

Yeah, I really wish more craftsmen would start taking the Korean Sword Arts seriously-- Haidong Gumdo, in particular, seems very much on the up-swing, and appears to incorporate a more distinctly-Korean flavor.
Even though I'm not a practitioner, I'd certainly love to own a Jingum. But, yeah, it certainly looks like the only *reputable* option for a non-practitioner to do so is Jingum.com

That is funny reading this old thread because just a couple months after posting about drooling over that jingum ...I bought it. I also have one that I purchased through the school like Kennedy said. It too is a very good expenive sword.

The saddest part of brining up a thread this old is that it's still accurate. There haven't been any new Korean swords in the production market in four years, and the ones that were available and still are haven't changed.
