Your sketch looks like the sort of 'inventory lists' I used to make for my old D&D characters...

I kid, I kid. I've been reading through this thread and I haven't quite come up with my "one" sword I'd want. But I'll figure it out.

No doubt about it, I am one nerdy sumbish. I haven't sunk to D&D levels, though. (Actually I was set to play in a 4th Ed. game a few years back but it fell through.)

I am really tempted to pick up a smallsword-esque type thingy from Fableblades. I even have 50% of the cash needed, but, tuition is $12000 a year, and I don't think sword buying's the best thing to do right now.

Don't do it brother... just say no to 4th ed. As for 'sinking' to D&D levels... your encyclopedic knowledge of comic books and fantasy novels has you already WAY down in the muck buddy... you'd have to climb up a bit to reach D&D nerd status.

I only get one  . Well it would have to be expencive enough so that I can sell it and get as manny and what ever other swords I wanted cuz I want me lots of swords. Honestly I would get them all if I could, it's hard not having a favorite.

This. No but If I could choose. It would be a Chinese Jian blade. Pretty much a replica of this ancient sword (attached below) But with modern steel techniques. I don't know smithies well enough to judge whom makes the strongest steel. But certainly the Powning sword or the linked one below. Oh and here is the link for the Powning Jian www.powning.com/jake/commish/swords13.shtml

the powning Farbauti ,or brenno's nokkelen are probably my 2 most lusted after sword's, if pushed though i'd go for nokkelen purely becuase i would cut with it,powning's swords are to me more like consumate art objects than something i would cut with, whereas brenno's work is still up there with jake powning, just something in me think's that a fable blade screams to be used i would have the blade on nokkelen blackened, with an ox blood wrap and brass furniture (one day,it will be mine)

Powning is a god amongst men... Durability is one of, if not THE strongest point with a Fable Blade I have to say... mine feel as close to unbreakable as any sword I've ever handled. I'd put my Fable blades up against anything durability wise... these are meant to be USED.

My Fable blade is easily the most solid sword I own. I'm not worried at all about using it, in fact it demands to be used.

Hey Talon, I like your ideas for your Viking sword. I'd like to do one with antiqued brass fitings. And a black blade. As would I like to trim the overall size down a little to liven it up and make it more historical, without losing any of it's imposing aura. On using it: the owner, who was a complete novice, as it's his first sword, on his second cutting session, was able to cut a sports shoe clean in half which was tossed to him. A feat unmatched by his long practiced friends with their katanas that day. I thought that was pretty cool :0) I'd like to have seen that.

then youl love to do mine when and if i ever get the funds, cuz thats exactly what i want, a trimmed down Nokkelen with antiqued bronze fittings. im thinking 33 inch blade 2 or 3 mm less in width all along the blade to keep the proportions the same but trim it down, i absolutely LOVE how you tapered the blade from shoulder into the tip, not too rounded, not too pointy. just FLAWLESS.

Well, I already have one of my dream blades. My own personal custom jian. Now, the thing is, I want another custom Jian.
So my "any sword" with no limits would be:
Jian: Blade length - 70cm Width - Standard taper Edge geometry - Appleseed Lamination - San-mei, one side viabrant, dramatic twist-core folding. Other side, subtle, delicate, standard folding Blade decoration - 7 stars in brass in each side of the blade, no lining up with the opposite side. Smith - Jin-shi (Most likely)
Fittings: Charles Wu - Openwork Design (I'm keeping that hidden, don't want to ruin the surprise.) However, it will be Taoist. Scabbard - Chinese Blackwood. Grip - Blackwood with rough rayskin. Possibly a traditional grip wrap by Mandarin Mansion, depending on how thick it already is. Peened.
And I'm expecting to have the money for this in a year or two, just working on the design before making any inquiries.

Sweet. I need to convert to... whatever Crom's religion is called. "Free swords" is a recruitment policy I could really get behind. Frankly, with the sword itself free (does that include shipping?) I would basically ask around with all the big name custom makers - Lundemo, Ollin, Castle Keep, etc - and see who can get it done and sent to me the fastest. With swordmakers of this class, I seriously doubt I would be disappointed regardless of who I go with. So really, with the issue of cost illiminated, waiting would be my chief concern. Heck, I might even get Peter Johnsson to make it for me, since he has the advantage of living in the same country as me. It's really hard for me to settle for just one sword. I have, like, at least five that I absolutely want. Though, if I had to narrow it down to one, probably a custom saber, or possibly a warder-type bastard saber. Damascus would be nice, though I'm more concerned with performance then bling so I guess I would discuss the matter with the swordmaker in question to find the best material for my preferences. Either would be slightly curved saber blades, single fuller along most of the blade, hatchet point, no false edge. The saber would have a blade about 30-31", the warder a bit longer. For the saber: Some type of ambidextrous guard that protects the hand well, without being too weighty. Possibly something walloon inspired, or a spadroon-style guard, or something like Lundemo's damascus backsword, or these things. Or maybe something Spanish. There's lots of alternatives, really. Grip should be ergonomic, likely of my own design. I would also like it to have a pommel. I don't entirely trust swords without pommels. For the warder, I'm thinking s-curved quillions with siderings, a comfy grip with adequate space for two hands, and a scent-stopper pommel of some kind. Iron? Bronze? Whatever gets the job done, I guess. Inlays, more likely. What with it not costing me anything.
