I am well on my way to completing my first sword and am very excited. the shape and edge are all done now but im left with slight pitting despite my best efforts with a grinding disc lol. can someone point me in the right direction as to what i should do next to begin the mirror polished look of my blade. - What to use. - post steps... either or would be helpful thx

Fatecaller, If your blade is annealed; try draw filing the flats along the longitudinal axis. Check the surface frequently, and clean the file often. If the blade is already heat treated; you may need to use stones instead of a file. As soon as the pits dissappear; start with a coarse wet/dry sandpaper backed with something flat. Work the surface through finer grades of wet or dry until the surface pleases you. I usually finish working blades to 600 grit. For a higher shine by hand; go to1500 grit. For a true mirror polish; I use a one horsepower Baldor buffer turning 1800 RPM. The trick is to remove all marks from the previous grade of paper, with the current grit that you are using, before moving on to finer grit.
This is the short version. Metal polishing is more art than science. I hope this helps. Patience and hard work will bring success.

thx man thats a big help i really appreciate all the comments im gettin on this forum. sure is a lot more fun makin swords when u dont have to struggle with stuff. ill be sure to post pics when im done.
