Hello, I just forged a new blade today, completely forged! OUt of leaf spring form the scrapyard. The peice I started out with was about 12 inches long, 3/8ths of an inch thick, and about 2 inches wide(quite a hefty peice!). I will have pictures of the blade blank tommorrow!

damn... if you read my post in the ancient sword section you will see that I have a special interest in Greek leaf shaped blades... particulary since I am of Greek decent.

I agree with tsafa. I love leaf-bladed swords. they are so original and so unique its a shame NOT to love them . I'm not of greek decent like you are, but these swords hold a great appeal to my heart. Gus trim makes an excellent one I believe, at a relatively inexpensive price. Sam, post pictures! your killing us ;D! everyone loves the "work in progress" photos so we can see the blade being born!

One of my favorite swords, while not Greek, is the Celtic leaf blade sword by Gen2 (you can read my review of it here). Cuts like a dream, partially due to the relative thiness of the blade, the razor edge and - of course- the leaf blade profile. Anyway, can't wait to see what Sam has in mind here - he has actually been working away behind the scenes to create a beginners guide to making a sword for my site, which the first draft I must say is truly exceptional - and he most certainly knows his way around a forge!

Thick is dead on right. You could probably put that on a staff as a sort of halbred/spear too.

Yeah I am kind of debating wether to make it a sword or spear.

well, I think you rules out spear by giving it a tang instead of a socket, so go with knife (then always claim its spartan )

Well I oculd always weld on a socket over the tang and have a tang and socket over it.

Well I oculd always weld on a socket over the tang and have a tang and socket over it. Well you could leave it with a tang and cut a slot on the end. But I would still mount a socket over the top of the shaft for extra support to the shaft and tap down inside. Then drill you two holes through the socket, shaft and tang so you can pin it. Or yes make a handle and call it a Spartan. It would look nice
