Hey everyone,
As you may have read in the February issue of the digest, I am about to head off to Japan for a few days to catch up with my little girl Lana who I haven't seen since May 2010..
It's not been easy living 6,000 odd kms away from her, but she has started pre-school and is doing well, so in the end the decision for her to live with her mother over there after our divorce was for the best - I just wish that I could either live there in the same country with her or at least be able to visit her more often..
Anyway, I'm frantically trying to tie off as many SBG related loose ends before I leave so I can concentrate on spending some real quality time with her when I get over there, but I will pop in the forum every few days and will certainly be taking lots of photos of my trip, so will try to post a few when I can in this thread (I am staying close to Osaka castle and plan to take her there, so will definitely at least include a few photos of that field trip).
During this time my email access will be somewhat limited, but I'll be tackling that monster as soon as I get back (phew, not looking forward to that I can tell you! Lol).
Arigatou (hmm, should start to practice my rusty Japanese - wonder if metalglo works on that?! Hehe), - Paul

Go! Have fun! We won't throw any parties while you are gone... promise!
But seriously, it's good to hear that you'll get to spend some quality time with your daughter. I hope the weather is nice and the trip is enjoyable.
Oh, and watch out for ninjas.

Thanks guys - the trip was great, I included a bit of a write up and some pics in the sword buyers digest (march) but this one of Lana is my favorite: A whole heap of factors are 'calling' me to a more permanent move to Japan - including sword research, alternative income possibilities such as teaching English, the exchange rate combined with much, much lower margins on the swords sold at the store (the cost of living is MUCH lower than in Australia) - plus the basic fact that it is expensive to travel back and forth all the time to see my daughter... Well, moving there seems to be pretty much a no-brainer..!! I've been selling my personal collection to finance it and will be taking another longer trip there from the end of this month to investigate further, though this time I will be setting things up in advance so that they do not impact on the smooth running of the site so much.. If I can pull it off, it should be very interesting - and while it may limit me personally sword wise in some areas, it will also open up a whole new world of opportunities in another! So looks like the title of this thread is suddenly relevant again - LOL. - Paul P.S. Apologies for being so self indulgent, but I do like to share this kind of news with you guys.

If it were for no other reason then to be closer to your daughter then it would still be worthwhile to relocate. The other advantages just make the decision all the easier.
I think that I speak for the rest of the SBG community; if there is anything we can do to help you during this process, just let us know.

With all due respect paul, your daughter looks like she is going to be a heart breaker. I can honestyly understand te being closer to your daughter. That just means more guys are gonna have the fear of god put in them  Who knows, maybe this will open more ideas for SBG and you get to enjoy a great country. You and I share the same things my friend, I want to go to Japan and teach English. If you dont mind, keep me up to date on that...possibly some pointers. If I can help out in any way, please dont hesitate to ask. From one Gaijin to another ^_^

Um, hi Vincent! Well, just wanted to post a quick update as the 'a bit' part seems to be a bit longer than planned - I have managed to secure a job as an Assistant Language Teacher at two highschools in Osaka, went to the first one on Friday and it was great - the teachers were all really nice and the kids very welcoming and friendly - I'll actually be helping to design some of the lessons, so it should not be boring. Both jobs are a bit far away from where I live, so a fair amount of transit time is involved, but I should have enough time in the evenings when I get back to work on SBG most days, and can catch up on the other stuff on the weekend. It looks like it will be work, work, work for a while but I'll do what it takes to keep SBG going and once I start getting paid start to try and plug its worst financial wounds. Been a real tough year this one, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel - and during the school holidays I will work on the site 24/7 and take some time off to FINALLY check out some historical sites and swords here (after all, it kind of sucks to be so close to so many historical goodies but not have the time or the money to check them out! Lol). Talk again soon in what looks like it will be my 'interactive/forum travel blog thing'. - ポール
