I think this is a beautiful katana. I think the Hamon is real but maybe a little enhanced. Do you think this would surfice as a great backyard cutter? kultofathena.com/product.asp?ite ... boo+Katana :?:

Yes, it would cut quite well. I want to give you the heads up that it is about 40-50$ overpriced. The model I have is www.collectibleswordsusa.com/Han ... 16536.html with the same theme. Absolutely fantastic hamon, actually the whole katana looks very similar to most of the Ryumons so I can only guess that they are from the same forge. They don't skimp on a single thing really. Rayskin is okay, new but medium nodes. Same specs but with a absolutely fantastic saya. Really thick horn fittings all over and great inlay work. Mine is an old model 3058 with 1065 steel...but the newer ones are 1045 and about 20-30$ cheaper than the original. Very few people have bought these so wanted to give you a heads up on the quality difference. Again worry about the non-alternating ito wrap...but it is very tight and won't fail anytime soon.

I think 1065 maxes out at a lower hardness than listed on the sale page(s)

yep i recently sold them, my thoughts: overall a nice sword, very well put together - but def overprived, and the hamon is NOT REAL although they claim it is - its just wirebrushed honestly spend 100$ more for the HANWEI Bamboo

Niiice! lol. I don't do Kendo, but i do Wado Ryu at David Deaton. I think the two other than Mount Juliet are a bit McDojo'ish But the one in Mount Juliet I absolutely love. And technically Wado Ryu doesn't do weapons but My sensei is HIGHLY qualified in weapons. Katana is probly his favorite. I figured since i got on the subject ill tell you a story he told me. We have pictures put up in our dojo and one of them is him with this beautiful Katana, you could see the hamon from every angle. So it peaked my interest so i asked him about it. Turns out it was a 14th century Katana he bought in the 70's for about $900. The reason it was so cheap is because it was very rusted and the guy who had it thought it was un restore-able. So he spent a total of 2 years polishing it and cleaning it and it looked Brand new. So now its worth $20,000. but a couple of years ago it was stolen from his house along with all his katana's. It made me sad just hearing about it. lol

How much are classes there, also what type of style is that? I've been wanting to get back into martial arts and that would be a bit of a drive but I ride a motorcycle so it wouldnt kill me in gas. It'd just be a pain to ride back after being exhausted, haha.

First 2 classes are free i think. Then its around $150 a month, Once you hit Gold belt wich is next after white you can get into black belt club, which is basicly you commiting your self to black belt. And you get discounts and you can take as many classes as you want and you are able to do Bo, Sword. And the style is Karate. I can PM you the number to the dojo if you want more information.
