Make a working version, then you're just about set for any zombie invasion, weaponry wise.

HAHAHAHAHA
Jeff, that is a Beautiful piece of art good sir! When you mentioned aluminum, I thought "huh... why in the world didn't he just use carbon steel?" Then I saw the "to scale" picture and all my questions were answered.
A karma for you good sir! But one final question:
Where is the barrel?

Ho-lee crap! The pictures don't do the size of that thing justice until the last one. Never really got into the FF games, but that would be a pretty neat conversation piece. Nice work, Jeffrey.

My sentiments exactly. By the way, for anyone curious, this is Lionheart from Final Fantasy VIII and the scale is, scarily enough, a little downsized:

Thanks ghost Yep chopper, it's a big'un  Couldn't figure out how to make the lion shoot plasma (or whatever) LittleJP, so hopefully the zombies will hold off until I can get that sorted out Thanks Greg The lion's mouth is supposed to be the barrel. At least that's how it was described to me by the customer. Thank you Aaron I've never played any version of the particular game this is from either. This was made for a U.S. soldier to commemorate his tour of duty. He was planning on making a big display case for it to hang on the wall. Hey Vincent, We originaly discussed making it "full" sized and even went over the possibility of making from high carbon steel and hardening and tempering it. It is very slightly scaled down and I'm glad we decided on aluminum, the thing weighed a ton as it was

looks good in the first few pics, then bam. It must take a fair amount of work to get that right. On a different note BB can you put that blue on to a carbon blade? say a 2 hander would have to still be able to cut if the need arose.

You would likely wind up with a hard edge where the powder coat ends, and your edge bevels began. Powder does not feather out well at all in my small experience with it. The hard edge where the powder coat ends may lead to chipping or fracturing of the coating due to the dege being a few thousandths thicker than the surface of the steel. On light targets, it may not be a concern, but getting into more substantial targets may lead to damaging the surface treatment. I would think that Bamboo would bugger it up right quick.

Holy Sh*t, that thing is crazy awesome!!!
as for the working version, maybe titanium version would weigh less? I don't really know if titanium is denser or not than the aluminium, but it should be stronger and even usable as a cutting tool, right?

Hey Deepbluedave, As chickinohio suggests, powdercoating a cutter could be problematic. First potential problem is the edge. If you want to maintain a sharp edge, you'd end up sanding off the coating along the edge. That wouldn't necessarily be bad if the coating was feathered back from the edge it would still look alright but I don't know how prone it would be to chipping from the flex of the blade. Also, it does show scratches despite being "scratch resistant", so if you cut with it, it will show. You can also heat blue a blade to a similar light blue color but it is also hard to control the exact color along a long blade. Thanks nihontoman Titanium isn't so much a good blade material, steel is really the best choice.

Well, I hate it. But I absolutely ADORE the craftsmanship! I'm always amazed by your skills BrotherB. The attention to detail, the crispness of execution--spellbinding. Really incredible work. As always. But egads, I hate things like that. It kind of gives me a stomachache. So long as the customer is happy, I suppose, and I'm sure he'll love it. 'Twas certainly done for a very good cause.

Man, I never thought I'd see an accurate high-end Lionheart replica. You did a great job with this one. Ah, this is making me somewhat nostalgic.

That would be Squall's Gunblade from Final Fantasy 8. Very popular! Great job

Lunaman pretty well covered my thoughts on this... not a fan of that style of huge silly anime weapon at all... so when I look at the piece my gut does get a little tippsy. That aside... the craftsmenship that went into making it blows my mind... and you replicated the item amazingly well. Kuddos!

If you'll excuse a bit of a pet peeve here: You mean huge silly video game* weapons. "Anime" specifically refers to Japanese animated movies and serials. Likewise, "manga" referers to the comic equivalents. I'm pretty sure there isn't even a real term for the art style in general.
It's a bit presumptious to assume that all huge, crazy-looking fantasy swords come from anime, is what I'm saying.
*And, besides, Japan hardly has the monopoly on video games featuring absurdly designed swords.
