I been wanting a goat lately. We will probably be moving in the coming year. I think I'll try to find a place suitable to keep a goat.

in the end this is a sword forum. if we let ourselves bicker over such things that are sure to start fights then we will lose our focus, our unity, and cease to be a community of sword lovers and become the next unpleasant hole of internet nastiness that I just prefer to skip.
I don't see it as censorship so much as merely keeping us on track and on topic. now I could see some mention of religion and politics as it pertains to history, and particularly as it pertains to the history of the sword being ok, but that is not inviting debate on whether a certain political or religious view is right or good or ok. it is only speaking about something that had an effect on history and that is not the same.
Well, Ric I guess when you move and get a goat you won't have to clean up your bottle scraps, the goats will eat them. right?

Really? Goats eat plastic? That's it, I'm getting one. Anyone want to buy a lawn mower?

always good to know there are some forumties who keep the mood fun and funny -thanks guys. I love it when one word sparks/branches out to a good back and forth discussion all it's own.

They do... goats will eat anything... The first house my wife and I were going to buy... when we first looked at the area there was a goat wandering around the street. We ended up NOT living there... which is just as well, he might have eaten that 5k rug, and that woulda sucked.

I'm not a senior member by any means, but in the 3 years that I've been on this forum, I've trusted Paul's judgment implicitly. It's in the tagline people, we're the friendliest sword forum on the net. Let's keep it that way! Also, in other news, I have some new cutting to post up soon for your amusement....

It is my belief that most folks push the envelope sometimes when it comes to rules. what makes the difference is knowing when the envelope will break. a rule is like a sword. it should never be flex tested, but some do. what is a crying shame is when flex testing leads to a broken blade. since this is a sword forum, i felt that was an appropriate analogy.

I've only been hanging out on this forum for a couple of months now, but the reason I come here is that it's fun, friendly and informative. Why would we want it to be anything but? If a discussion looks like it's getting heated, let's agree to kill it. Whether we put it in a moat, lock it or flush it down the freaking loo, who cares? If it was getting divisive, we don't want to do that here. We all have to give up something in order to be an authentic community. As for religion and politics, these are things that touch people very deeply. The reason it's unwise to allow debate on these topics is out of respect for personal freedoms, not in denial of them. The best way to uphold religious and political liberty is to disallow attacks on them. This is a great forum. I'm sure most of you agree. IMHO Paul should never be put in a position where he has to make a tough call on a thread. We should be doing that BEFORE we sit down at the keyboard.

It all boils down to people needing to use common sense. Generally, people have a good idea whether or not what they are going to say is offensive or over the line. If you think it is, easy....don't post it.
Just because a person believes they have certain rights does not mean they should exercise them at all times. Its something called discretion and politeness. Sadly, far too few people today seem to understand that or exercise it.
