I don't know about accurate since it doesn't seem to have the curve, but there's this kilij: It's 500$, but currently sold out. The same vendor who sells/makes this (I'm not sure which) also sells a fairly accurate talwar for 300$, among other things. Here's the site: www.esford.com/armourydamascus.htm

I'm not sure on the quality, either, but it's the only thing that falls into this category that's not antique or Windlass. It's a shame Cold Steel discontinued their talwar; if it had any of the quality that most of their other swords do, it would have been a pretty good sword, if a little overpriced.

Whats your problem with the windlass one?
If it's mostly cosmetic, I'm sure there are some craftsmen out there that can modify it for you.

You could always go Custom... I can think of a couple smiths that could make one for you in the 500-1000 range.

It's a stiffer sword, it tapers somewhat towards the thicker side near the COP, then tapers quickly down towards the point. If you're really worried, get a windlass, then get a someone to grind it down to a more historical shape, A & A accepts these types of works.

I have the MRL Shamshir and love it. Besides just beautiful, it is well balanced, light and quick in the hand. It is a great sword. You can't beat it for the money. And as for distal taper and other dimensions, I am sure someone here has done a review on it. Heck, I might have my self. But I strongly recommend MRL's Shamshir. Can't beat it for the price. One more reason to love KOA! (As if we needed one, right?) While most vendors will recite statistics like blade length, overall length and weight, KOA takes it a step further, doing (so far as I can tell) their own calculations of things like distal taper and point of balance.
KOA lists the distal taper of the Windlass Persian Scimitar as 4.3-3.6mm, in other words, not a whole lot going on there. Then again, that's the same stock that my Windlass American Revolutionary War saber was cut from, and let me tell you: that's a heck of a blade. It has a good temper, and springs right back from good solid bends, and it's stood up to whacking all kinds of things with no loosening.
I've been chasing around the whole Mameluke sword/scimitar/shamshir/szabla/shashka thing myself lately. (Every so often, I just go all crazy for curved swords from the East.) The Cold Steel, Windlass and Weaponedge variants (all very close, so far as I can tell) all seem to run to the same thin stock, and to someone accustomed to knightly swords that POB seems WAY out there . . . but then I remind myself that it's not "straight out of Oakeshott" after all.
Depending on how far you're willing to stretch your definitions, have you considered the Cold Steel Marine Officer's Saber? The blade is narrower than I would ideally like, and of course it's tarted up with USMC etchings, but I keep circling back to it somehow anyway---I like the curve of the blade, my beau ideal is a slightly curved blade that keeps the point in line with the hilt. Or there's the Weaponedge 1831 General officer's saber, along the same lines.

I have a review of this scimitar, actually. I measured almost no distal taper until the very last bit of the blade, where the point begins. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4056I tried to do as extensive of a review as I could... hope that helps. I would say that if you honestly want a 'real' scimitar, then see about having someone make you a replica. John Lundemo, Tinker, Brendan...

Hey Elhru Aran, Went to the link, great review and great pics. I have one of these (they call it a Shamshir now) I ordered new from MRL. I love it but my hands are like yours and from your pics my hand fits it like yours; too tight or something. And I have thought of wrapping it to thicken that narrow part with leather or something. I would like finger rings on a sword similar to that brass handled with built in brass knuckles U.S. WWI Trench Knife. With my fingers in those rings or holes seems like you can whip that blade around a lot quicker and more secure. Plus some built in knuckles wouldn't hurt ina real fight.
You mentioned "pimping it out" such as tooling the leather of the scabbard, engraving on scabbard meteal parts, re-doing handle and grip, etc.. Did you ever do any of that? If so, please post some pics as I would love to see it after you are done with it. Freebooter
