Hello all,
I have moved into an apartment as of late. With marital troubles, divorce, surgery, etc, over the last year or so, I have not even strung my longbow in a year or more. I went out with it a week or so ago and sucked at shooting it at an armadillo from 20' away. Missed it with three or four arrows, three while he just sat there, the fourth as he ran away. Gads! Talking about being out of practice and all. My muscles were out of shape that work a bow, I trembled and could barely aim, etc. I just sucked plain and simple. Two years ago, back when I shot and practiced regulary, I shot two armadillos on the run at like 20 yards or more. Now I just was pitifully inadequate so I took my arrows and went home.
So, I realize I need practice, for my accuracy, toning up bow muscles, stance, form, ect, etc.. So out of desparation I put my 2' square box target up in one corner of my living room and have been shooting at it from my dining area; abt 25'. All I care about is tuning up my accuracy, stance, concentration, bow working muscles, etyc.. I have shot at it twice a day for three or four days now. When I started got 5 or 6 arrows in an 8" circle. Oh the horrors! That is terrible at a measly 25'. But tonight I put five of them in a 2" circle. Thought I ruined a an arrow a couple of times as they hit and glanced off each other. But I am getting there. Every day I will do this at least twice a day or more. Now when I go out again soon huinting for small game the little critters won't be laughing at me! LOL!
But for real y'all, it is a good feeling to be shooting my long bow again. It is smoother than my old Hoyt recurve. It is a sweet shooting bow made by Northern Mist Archery out of Michigan (Steve Turray bowyer), four lams of bamboo and glass, 60lbs @ 28". I draw around 30-31".
Been having so much fun just had to tell someone about it.
