Moved this over from the old site...figured it might still be usefull.
Total disclosure: I have no connection to BKS other than a customer/business relationship. This is the first BKS sword I have ever owned. I recieved no discounts on this sword other than the original great price that Matt and Kerry made us, plus the custom options of the wood handle and darkened fittings.
Well, after much waiting and anticipation I finally recieved my customized BKS/SBG striaght blade. It arrived well-packaged wrapped in bubble packing and cardboard. When I first pulled the sword out of the box, I noticed immediately that the wood handle sections were loose and moved about during handling. Luckily, I remembered that Matt had mentioned that if my sword got loose I could just tighten up the peen block/nut and re-peen the end. After doing this, everything tightened up very nicely and now there is no perceptable movement even after extensive bamboo cutting. There were a couple of spots of slight staining on the blade, but I intend on using this sword frequently so I'm not too worried about it. Both edges are fairly sharp with a slight secondary bevel evident. I really like the dark color of the fittings and the shape of the blade, which is also quite stiff. The hilt is pretty heavy and the sword is pretty much neutrally balanced. Cutting required a little force as the balance point is right at the beginning of the cutting edge. Anyway, the pictures pretty much sum it all up. Here's the statistics:
Blade: 30" long, 2.5" wide after ricasso
Overall: 42"
Grip: 8"
Guard: 4.5" across
Weight: 2.75 lbs
POB: about 1" from center point of guard
COP: 18" from base of blade
