It's a real tight fit but I can hold my Bristol with two hands.
Did you not see this?

Razor, I didn't see that before. Thank you very much for directing me to those videos. The whole package is beautiful, especially for the price, and the more I handle it the more comfortable I become with that crazy handle. It came fairly sharp so if you hit right, it cuts pretty well, but I feel like I need to take a stone to it and get it a bit sharper. (I always wonder how sharp Mike keeps his 1557's. But maybe it's his technique that makes it look like those bottles are made out of hot butter!) When you put the handle back on, did you put any kind of locktite on the threads? How tight do you dare crank it?

Its all technique with Mike's 1557. He has two of em... one of them I sold to him. I had a lot of trouble cutting with it... but it works great for him. Same blade... different swordsmen.

You can use Loctite on the pommel nut if you wish, but if you break it down repeatedly,it gets to be a bit of a pain. if you plan to lock it down and leave it,then by all means use a threadlocker.
As far as tightening goes, bring everything down snug so there are no rattles or looseness, and then give it a 1/4 turn or so to get it tight. The Valiant pommel nuts are made from aluminum, and they will flare on the bottom edge and the hex will distort a bit if you tighten them with authority. A Hanwei/Tinker nut is steel,as are some of the replacement fencing pommel nuts if you wish to replace the aluminum one.
