A week ago my brother asked me what I wanted for my birthday. Granted I have a "Ye Ol' Sword List" that I would have been happy to take any of them, I didn't feel that it fit within the price range.
Luckily I've had my eye on the Hanwei Large Sword Bag!

Here is how I used to carry around my 3 cutters:
And here is how I'm carrying them now:
One of the things I love about this bag is that it actually has 3 compartments for your swords. This wasn't mentioned on the KultofAthena website, which I think that it should be. This was a MAJOR perk for me. I wouldn't have minded just throwing all my swords into the same compartment, but being able to keep them separated to avoid any scuffing is a great bonus. The two side compartments are lined with a thin rubbery plastic which I believe is water resistant.
As you can see, the sword bag is large enough to fit my Tinker GSOW, VA 304s and 303s comfortably. I was a little concerned about the width tho, but my GSOW guard is slightly under 9 inches across and it fits without any problems at all.
The bottom of the bag is covered with leather which seems to add extra protection to the tips of the scabbards as well as provide more friction to keep the bottom of the bag from sliding out from under itself when propped in a corner.
This bag also comes with a generous 10" pocket for things like wrenches, oils, cloths and all other maintenance materials.
But I should note that when I tried to put an accusharp in the pocket, it was promptly spat back out accompanied by a sickly sound.*
The top of the bag has, what I assume to be, a slack adjustment that can be tightened to keep your swords from moving back and forth. It can also be used as a top handle if you want to throw the sword bag over one shoulder and look cool.**
There is also an ID tag holder which is a nice way to keep from mixing up sword bags.
As far as transporting the sword bag goes, Hanwei has provided two options. There is a side handle and an over the shoulder strap.
PROS:
-Multi Sword Capacity
-Moisture resistant lining
-Non Slip leather base for vertical storage
-Generous 10" pocket for accessories
-Individualized compartments to avoid scuffing between swords
CONS:
-The shoulder strap could have been moved towards the top of the bag a bit more. With 3 Euro blades in the bag, the whole thing was slightly top heavy. I will probably turn one of the blades upside down to equalize the weight in the future.
-The bag does not have the capability to open up all the way into a mat. I prefer to keep my swords off the grass, gravel or dirt.
Conclusion:
I highly recommend this bag to anyone. The bags come in 3 different sizes:
50.5"x9"
50''x 7''
42.5"x4.5"
I personally would avoid the medium sword bag. It's a 6 dollar difference between the two prices and it doesn't seem logical to have 50" of length but only 7" of width. I am not sure, however, if the other 2 sizes have the 3 compartments like mine does.
As I found out, this makes an excellent idea to drop to friends and family for a gift idea. I wish I'd have bought one of these long ago.
Well done Hanwei!
