The official announcement is due to be made in the November issue of the Digest - but you may well have noticed that as of around 1 hour ago, we have a new look SBG and forum. What has been done is more or less a clean up and redesign of the second SBG look and feel. Old timers will know that there have been three incarnations of SBG's appearance, the first one was the Windlass European sword on a purplish lightning background, you all probably know the second - and now finally the SBG logo and a Katana on an abstract psuedo Celtic backdrop. (I considered adding a Euro sword next to the Katana, but in the end I would probably have to add a Roman, Greek, Rapier, Fantasy, etc blade - which would look to cluttered, so opted for a generic Katana - try to please everyone and no one is happy kind of thing ). Anyway, hope you guys like it. Cheers, - Paul

Yup, I like it. The Celtic knot creates the Eclectic Contrast that you're looking for without 16 swords. Very professional.

Looks better and less cluttered on the main page with the ads and rules and such at the bottom. Good to go

Hehe - yeah, no gladius. Thanks guys - and now the real fun is getting started. I have been playing around with the forum, giving it a nice matching background color, removing the blue links on the board headings (which didn't look all that professional) and the best part, adding new features... You'll see ALOT of new features being added in the next few days. Just cool stuff that increases the options and forum functionality. But if anyone doesn't like something, let me know - after all, it is as much YOUR forum as it is mine. Cheers, - P

Upgrade looks great Paul. I love it.
Just one tiny criticism though....
The removal of the blue hyper-links throughout the forums has made it significantly difficult to navigate. I find myself looking around for the links, because even though I know where they are, I have to move my cursor over them to make sure.
Someone who is brand new to the forums may have a difficult time finding his way around.
Perhaps a different color then blue. I'm not sure what would work, but as it is, I can't tell whats a link and what isn't. They don't stand out anymore.
Edit: just checked. The hyper links in post are okay, and that's all right with me.
But I still don't know about the rest. Some people have links in their signatures, and you can't tell if they're really links or not. Especially with the manufacturers. Maybe if you just bolded everyones name and links.

Great new header Paul. The overall look is better too, except I'll agree with darkintruder about the Blue links.
Maybe instead of black switch them the the Red, like the SBG logo? It's something I could get used to.

To add to the blue vs black links, I just noticed that in multi-page threads, the "next page" arrows are now invisible. The drop-down menu is still there, and that works fine, and the buttons are obviously there and functioning, but I just made it to the bottom of a thread, and saw the drop-down with no arrows. Boy, was I confused. Hovered mouse where I remembered them being, and sure enough, the cursor changed, and the button worked, but was it ever odd to see, rather, not see. Apart from that, everything looks great. I'm trying to decide why the banner looks so huge on my cell phone, though... Is it that much bigger than the last one? Whenever I open a new page, my poor tiny screen fills with banner and catches me off guard every time.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who disliked the black links....
I was going to post something but I thought it would be too petty. But now that it's up, I'd have to say, I'd prefer them back too.

A good point - just changed them to a brown color - which looks better than blue (though within a post url links will be blue for familiarities sake). Actually, I was thinking the same thing when I changed the links to black. Glad it wasn't just me. (lol, I realize after typing this how odd it sounds. hehe). Random: Actually, interestingly, the banner is exactly the same size as the previous one. Just seems to jump out more I suppose.

I actually kind of like the red. Gives everything a martial, militaristic feel. COntrasts well with the background, yellowish.

Yeah, it's nice. Doesn't contrast, and is kinda understated, but still catches the eye.
