Hey folks, As the deadline for the July edition of the Digest looms, and after (Finally) seemingly overcoming the issues with PDF - I have realized that there may not be time to get everything together... But it has got me to thinking... The time has come to streamline the digest. And the only thing I could think of was to reformat it back into the old ezine (i.e. email) format. My thoughts are to recreate the same categories as the normal edition of the digest (i.e. industry news, competitions, best forum posts, vid of the month etc). And in the case of specialized articles, to create them as a standalone link to a PDF. Which could then, of course, be added to the main site at a later date for posterity... I realize that this may not be popular. But this way, it would be the best of all worlds, and would allow me to spend more time in a concentrated effort to build SBG further. (Not to mention that it is GUARANTEED that everyone who subscribes can read it - and just jump to the links of interest instead of having to download the whole thing)... It really is the only way forward. And actually, I must admit, after some hesitation and doubt, as I begin to draft it I am a bit excited by the possibilities... Stay tuned for the July edition and let me know what you think. Cheers, - Paul

Though it is unfortunate to lose the recent neat looking format of the digest i understand that is for the greater good of the site, and this can only benefit it's members in the longer run. Given enough time and progress it may even be possible to bring it back at some stage, though for now any digest is better than no digest. Thanks for your efforts in trying to make this a better site for everyone.

Yeah, it is a bit of a let down - especially after I (think) I figured out what was causing all the issues with the downloads...
BUT - this format is a lot faster to create (around 1 day as opposed to up to 2 weeks sometimes) and will allow me to build the main site quicker and more effeciently (there have already been 2 new reviews added in the last 2 days, which otherwise would have been spent tweaking and testing the old format).
So I think that it is in everyones best interests. And when the main site is more filled out and will go into 'maintenance' mode, the time for the old style digest (with improvements!) is not to be ruled out.
Cheers,
- Paul
P.S. Plus it allows me more time to hang with you guys on the forum! ;D

Paul, no one here can say that you are not the heart and soul of this forum. We need you here, we want you here. Whatever the format you choose is fine by me (and by many others I'm sure). We can all keep in mind that without you, this the forum, website and monthly publication would not exist. Thanks for you constant efforts in making this an oasis of sort for us, sword lovers.
Thanks for the hard work pal!

Paul, I'll support any changes you think are necessary to keep this community live, healthy and growing.
You may want to consider combining the digest into the forum. All the cool stories you write can be forum posts. You can then email out a page that has links topics you wrote and want people on you mail list but not in this forum to get.

Paul, the bottom line is whatever works best for you. It doesn't matter how all your great info is transmitted. Great job as always.

Just when you think you have a problem licked... Looks like the PDF ebook I linked to in the digest is not working for some people (its deja vu all over again!). Did anyone else have trouble downloading it? Makes me glad I DID change the format, as the tests seemed like everything was working a-ok. But they were only a simple page or two... I have so many more free ebook projects I want to bring to the fore - and this problem has me pulling my teeth out!! Anyway, before I lose my cool and decide to test a 9260 SGC Katana on my monitor, let me know if anyone else is having this problem... Ta muchly. - Paul

It's fine for me... by the way, no worries about the format, my friend. It's a gift to have it in the first place and we have no right to be grumpy about streamlining it. We should be thankful we still have it

I prefer the PDF, actually. It works fine for me.
