Hey guys, You may have noticed that the forum has just been under the knife (or the sword should I say! ) and had a small facelift.. As many of you know, the forum has grown somewhat organically and as a result, it was a good idea to shift things around a little to expand a few categories that needed it and merge others accordingly. Anyway, hope you like how it's set out - nothing too radical, just a bit of (probably long overdue) housekeeping. Special thanks and Kudos to Shootermike for his input and ideas! Let me know what you guys think and if there are any other categories you would like to see (or equally any you would like to see dissapear!). Cheers, - Paul

thanks paul As always we'll be sure to notify you if we think anything needs to be done (though the sheild-shield mispelling still needs fixing, if you'll pardon my incessant nit-picking ;D)

oops, noticed something:
you have 2 "other traditional weapons" catagories, one under sword history and one under other traditional weapons.

I thought I fixed the 'sheilds' typo. Hmm, apparently not. Now I must write out shields 100 times: shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, shields, SHEILDS... Oops! Bugger... (hehe, lucky I cheated and just copied and pasted it...)

Hi Paul. The forum is doing great. We are growing steadily and some people are really adding exeptionaly informative posts.
One thing I noticed. You have "other traditional weapons" twice. That could get messy.

Hey guys, Paul gave me a bit of loose rope with the admin tools. I hope I haven't hung myself. I just finished making a few changes to the Forum layout based on feedback here. Please let us know if you like it, or if it should revert to some previous incarnation. Thanks, Mike

simplicity is great!
But other weapons and armour I don't like much....they each ave their own specific catagories.

I don't really want to spam up the competitions area with designs so....maybe a design forum where people like elchon, adam, myself and other designers can talk about our ideas?

another possiblity would be a subcatagory for fantasy section for the design idea.

Thanks to our magnanimous host and in response to Rammstein's request for a "sword design" area...TA DA! Please take a look at the newly modified category of Sword Smithing, Customization and Design where you will find a board for Member Designs. I would like to invite those of you with designs to post them in that board. And if you like, move designs from existing threads. Hope you all like it, and feel free to make any suggestions.

Hi Paul. I was at a diffrent computer today and I did not have my link to the forum. I googles "sword buyers guide forum" and I kept finding an old blog and old homepage (I think). I was not able to find a link to this forum via google.
Just wanted to bring it to your attention. I don't know if there is anything you can do to steer google searches closer to this forum.

agreed, it is VERY hard to get acess on another computer. Actually, I go to the myarmoury sword voting thread and get the link from that.
Any way to put that old link on the sbg site back?

I just remember the site url. It's not terribly difficult...
Step one: 'sbgswordforum'. SBG is pretty obvious, it means 'sword-buyers-guide'. And the 'swordforum' is even more obvious.
Next is a period.
Here's the hard part. 'proboards'. It's like 'professional message boards', but abbreviated. PROfessional messageBOARDS, see? Then the hardest part to remember is the number 70.
Then it's a '.com', and voila.

Hey guys, I wish I could tell google what to do... Actually, that's odd - I just noticed that google seems to have dropped the link. Used to be on the first page when you searched for 'sword forum', now it is nowhere to be seen. But if you type in SBG Sword Forum, that seems to do the trick. Cheers, - Paul

Hi Paul,
I think leaving the link to the forum in your navigation menu will be easier for new visitors to find. I have been going to your blog and clicking the link just to get to the forum. When you update your blog it will be harder to find.

Hi Paul,
I was on a buddys computer yesterday trying to show him the forum. I had a heck of a time finding a direct link from your main page. I manage to find it after searching the internet. I think it would be a shame if new visitors are not able to find a link from your main page.
Do you think you can put the link back on your navigation menu?

Hey guys, Well - due to popular demand (and to make life easier for forumites), I have put the forum back on the navbar under the category 'discussion forum'. Hope this helps. Cheers, - Paul

Hello, I am new here and love this forum already, indeed, have found a click of sabre lovers like myself. But if only there was e-mail notification of responses. I have tried the "Bookmark this Thread" thing and it does nothing. It gets agrevating to come on here and have to go to every forum and thread you have ever participated in to see if you had any responses. I know there is a way because over at a Conan forum, also a proboard forum, we had the same problem and the guy running it got in touch with someone at proboards or figured it out or what have you and gave us directions how to fix that problem. I just wish I could remember what it was. Thanks, Freebooter
