Since there doesn't seem to be any bamboo cutting video done with European longsword on youtube, save the infamous ARMA deltin breakage on bamboo, I brought my three longswords (1 Brescia Spadona + 2 complex hilt longswords from Tinker) to the wilderness for some test cutting practice. The ground was uneven with limited space to swing the sword, not to mention the high density of the bamboo bush that often interfered the cut. Also, once a bamboo was cut from the root, it was hard to make it stand still anymore. The bamboo diameter I cut ranged from 1.5 to 1.75 inches. The photos of the swords can be seen here: www.rsw.com.hk/3-swords.htmHere are the videos: With brescia spadona With No-dust With No-ego And here's a clip of my student wielding a huanuo katana against 2 bamboo poles I left for him. He stuck them hard into the mud before cut so it helped. He cut 1.125 to 1.5 inches diameter bamboo.

There are some very nice cuts there. I was really impressed by the one with No-ego where you cut through one stalk completely and halfway through another one with what looked like a tip cut (at least closer to the tip than to the CoP). Nice.

Thanks! There wasn't much space for me to do powerful COP cut indeed... The tip got through nearby stalk twice (once from the left and once from the right). The right one cut the stalk down.

Did you by any chance bring any bamboo back to your home so you can cut it in a better environment? I'd like to see those swords perform in a less crowded area where you could really let loose.

We are going to make some "simulated bamboo" by paraffin wax and cut at better environment. We'll see.
