I have noticed people using cutting stands of different heights and it got me to thinking. Yikes ! Is there an ideal height for cutting stands in relation to the person doing the cutting? Does it depend on the weapon used? Is it just a matter of personal preference? Opinions please.

I felt most comfortable with a stand putting the target at my breastbone level. Shootermike seems to prefer hit at neck level. Probably a matter of preference.

Multiple stands with various heights!

Definitely multiple stands of differing heights is my preference. I would ideally like two "sets" of stands that reflect the target areas on an opponent. The targets would be:
1. head/neck 2. sword arm at a chest-level cut (for cutting the opponent's sword arm or slicing the chest) 3. waist & midsection (cutting under a shield or when you get an open side) 4. thigh & knee
One set would be for someone about my size, and the other would be for fighting someone quite a bit taller.
I think this can be done with 6 stands. But I guess that's kind of "overkill" for water bottle cutting, huh?

No such thing as overkill. I'd especially like to see somebody pull off a single arc through six stands of varying height. I wonder if it would be possible? I know cleaving numerous foes in a single stroke is a pretty popular concept in various media, but I find it doubtful. Then again... Go, ShooterMike, and determine this for us. With video. Oh, just for the record, I don't personally have a cutting stand, or do any level of serious cutting. If I cut anything, it's the corners of the flaps of cardboard boxes (which I have in steady supply generally, thanks to my other hobby) which I've placed on my bed, leaving them somewhere between my knee and hip. Though in dry handling I tend to keep my swords chest to neck level, only rarely sweeping low to the leg-level. I'm too bloody tall to reach that low easily, so I just go with what I can get. Secondary note: I am a complete novice and have no training, nor any level of self-study. I just swing my swords around so I can hear the sound. Also, because it's good for letting off stress.
