I know you would love it Sean. Just get it! People refer to it as mithril. The D&Der in me thinks of it as Elven Chain (which is made of mithril) I'm such a nerd. If your a big nerd, then so am I, because thats exactly what I thought when I first saw the Ringmesh about a year ago... ;D Wouldn't it be more correct to call in "Dwarven Mail," as the Mithril hauberk of Bilbo/Frodo was forged by the Dwarfs of the Lonely Mountain for an Elvish prince?

I played with Ring Mesh samples a few years back and believe the stuff would be most comfortable. The sample felt more like a piece of cloth. Here’s a test I did using Condor’s Engineer Machete. It was at that point I decided to pass. I should add that I think it would be great for a custom, but nothing serious.

Thanks. If I had the coin, I'd go with riveted titanium. Even the Ringmesh is a bit outside my budget right now, though.

Wow, I just watched a Youtube video on the Condor machete. Pretty impressive chopper. Pgandy, how well do you think 18g riveted flat chain mail would hold up to that chopper?

Sorry, I have had no experience with 18 ga. riveted maille, so I cannot speak with authority. I would be willing to bet my bottom dollar that it would fare much better. I made my butted maille from 16 ga. metal. While I have confidence in it I have not given that the same test as I haven’t felt like dressing the machete’s edge afterwards. The Ring Mesh left a few very minor nicks on the machete. Not enough to hamper any further cutting if needed but enough to bother me knowing they were there and I worked them out. I am sure that 16 ga. wire will cause more damage to the edge than the Ring Mesh. Just call me lazy, and one day perhaps I will test.
